ARTIST TO WATCH: Rauw Alejandro

If you're looking for new music, waste no time searching! Reggaetón artist Rauw Alejandro has the hottest new Summer album for you.

Puerto Rican-born Rauw Alejandro entered the Latino urban music scene back in the early Soundcloud era of 2013. Since then, he has garnered the title as the “King of  Modern Reggaetón”. Alejandro's music style is a rare combination of reggaetón, pop, ballad, and R&B. In the Spring of 2019, Alejandro released his debut EP Trap Cake, Vol 1, which quickly boosted his fanbase and career, so in late fall of 2020, when Alejandro released his debut album Afrodisíaco, it was nominated for Best Música Urbana Album at the 64th Grammy Awards.

His success was quickly followed by his 2021 sophomore album Vice Versa; the lead single "Todo de Ti" was recognized by Billboard music staff as “the undisputed song of the summer all around the world.” The song later went on to be nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the Latin Grammy Awards. Additionally, the song went on to win two Latin Billboard Music Awards, and another nomination by the American Music Awards.

That same year, Alejandro did take home his first Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Fusion/Performance for the song "Tattoo Remix", which featured Colombian artist Camilo. Since then, he has gone on to win a total of 35 more awards for his music from various different music award programs.

In 2022, Alejandro released the sequel to his first EP, entitled Trap Cake, Vol 2, and his junior album Saturno, which quickly became a success for his unique pop sound mixed with traditional reggaetón beats. Rolling Stonesaid of the album, “Rauw Alejandro finds his own place in the pop cosmos on Saturno.”

In February of 2023, Rauw set off on a world tour for the album Saturno, which had fans flocking to TikTok to show off their concert outfits. The tour just wrapped up in Mexico but it is soon to resume in Spain for the start of its European branch. 

Despite being on tour, Rauw has not stopped releasing music. In Spring of 2023, Rauw released an EP with fellow music artist and then-fiancé Rosalía. The 3-song EP was entitled RЯ since the couple shares the same first letter of their names.

On June 14th, Alejandro announced that he would be dropping his fourth album, Playa Saturno, on July 7. Playa Saturno continues the intergalactic-pop-reggaetón vibes from Saturno but with a more Summery feel. The first single, "Baby Hello", a collaboration with ​​Argentine producer/DJ Bizarrap, was released with its music video on June 23. Playa Saturno has 14 tracks and 5 featured artists.
