Young Hollywood

Welcome to Young Hollywood. com.

Young Hollywood

Hey Young Hollywood, I'm Michelle Hummell and I'm here with the very handsome Terrence Howard at the GBK gifting sweets.

Young Hollywood

Now tell us about your involvement with the St. Bernard project.

Terrence Howard

Well, um, I met Liz McCartney, who um, founded the St. Bernard project at the CNN Heroes.

Terrence Howard

Liz ended up being the CNN Hero of the Year for what she did in galvanizing and raising enough money to rebuild over 160 homes in the St. Bernard parish after the flood.

Terrence Howard

She's done probably equivalent to what FEMA has done with billions of dollars and she was just a school teacher.

Young Hollywood

What's your involvement?

Terrence Howard

Well, my involvement is to try and help and lend my name, lend my work, lend my tools.

Terrence Howard

Me and my brother and my son are going down there to help rebuild some of the homes.

Young Hollywood

Have you had to pick up any tools and build a house?

Terrence Howard

Oh, I've been doing that my entire life.

Terrence Howard

I was raised as a contractor, so.

Young Hollywood

Have you been able to spend time with people in the community and see how much they appreciate it?

Terrence Howard

No, I haven't been down there yet, but if my name can bring people to stop there just for a second.

Terrence Howard

You know, and me being here might be able to help someone look over just a Nike.

Terrence Howard

But might see something really important, which is you know, what a caring human being can do.

Young Hollywood

Do you find it difficult being here in Hollywood trying to get people to understand how much help people really need down there or does the message seem to get across pretty clear?

Terrence Howard

No, people understand, I think.

Terrence Howard

But often times people feel like, well, what can I really do to help?

Terrence Howard

You know, and if Liz McCartney had felt like that, you know, then none of those people would be back home.

Terrence Howard

They would be relocated in another state or another city.

Terrence Howard

The smallest thing can make the biggest difference in the world.

Terrence Howard

Well, you've got to remember the widow, you know, that gave the two small coins, the two small drachmas.

Terrence Howard

Um, even though they were very little value, they were worth more than what everybody else had given because she gave them from her heart.

Terrence Howard

So even just a wave, even just a phone call, even just a letter to those that's trying to help.

Young Hollywood

So if you could explain yourself in one word?

Terrence Howard

Human.

Young Hollywood

Human.

Young Hollywood

I love it.

Terrence Howard

Hey, this is Terrence Howard and thanks for watching Young Hollywood.
