ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Girl In Red

If you’ve logged onto Instagram lately, you may have seen one of your favorite artists promoting Girl In Red. Otherwise known as Marie UlvenRingheim, the 22-year-old Norwegian singer/songwriter recently released her debut album If I Could Make It Go Quiet, and it has quickly become everyone’s favorite album... including Taylor Swift herself!

After releasing a string of singles in 2018, including her popular song “we fell in love in october”, Girl In Red is back with her very first studio album and we are loving it! Inspired by some of her favorite artists like Taylor Swift and The Smiths, Ulven started gaining notoriety through her SoundCloud in 2018 for her raw and vulnerable songwriting. Taylor Swift was quick to listen to Ulven’s album and posted a screenshot of her listening to the album on her Instagram story, calling the body of work “spectacular” – to which Ulven promptly freaked out. Is it too early to suggest a collab between these two?!

It is clear from just one listen of Girl In Red’s music that she has the innate ability to tap into the deeper feelings and harsher realities of life. Ulven has been very open and honest about her experience as a gay woman and has expressed all of her deepest struggles with love, heartbreak, and more on this album. Her song “Serotonin”, produced by FINNEAS, speaks on Marie’s struggles with intrusive/compulsive thoughts and OCD. Her lyrics and ability to speak so candidly on the human experience have truly set her apart in the world of music!

From 2018 to now, Girl In Red has grown exponentially. She has previously opened for acts like Clairo and Conan Gray, but now Girl In Red will be embarking on her own headline tour in 2022 for both the U.K. & Europe, as well as North America. Based on the reaction to this album, we can only imagine how amazing this tour is going to be!
