Who Will Be The Next James Bond?!
"It will be a man. He'll likely be in his 30s. Whiteness is not a given."
With these few words, legendary producer Barbara Broccoli has given us three precious clues as to how the new James Bond will be chosen, one of the most exciting unknowns of the present moment. Broccoli, who has been working on the Bond saga since 1983's Octopussy, knows all too well the importance of properly choosing a new Bond who will make their mark on the character for 10-15 years.
During Broccoli's tenure, the saga said goodbye to Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan; the last James Bond, Daniel Craig, died in (ironically) 2021's No Time to Die. This film was the end of one stage and the beginning of another that remains open, waiting to know who will be the new Agent 007 with a license to kill.
Male, in his 30s. and not necessarily white. And what else do we know? From the outset, he seems to follow the humanization that Daniel Craig provided. However, we also understand that each actor has brought new nuances to his character and that the saga changes with each new contribution. In any case, the next actor will have to take on a difficult challenge because Daniel Craig revolutionized the franchise and achieved a very high degree of acceptance among the demanding fans of the MI6 agent created by the writer Ian Fleming. Who will be the protagonist in the 26th James Bond movie? We have some proposals!
1. DAMSON IDRIS
Knowing that this new 007 might not be white, the chances of Damson Idris being chosen have skyrocketed, and he is our first choice. He has shown his own predisposition to the task. "You never know, anything could happen … You heard it first, HipHollywood, Bond is about to be Black," Idris said to HipHollywood on the purple carpet for the Season 5 premiere of "Snowfall". He is perfectly imaginable in the shoes 007: attractive, elegant, athletic, strong, and lethal. Physically, he checks all the boxes, and as an actor, he has already shown his talents in in The Commuter and "Snowfall", where he already plays a role with a lot of action. He is one of the "new names" in Hollywood, especially since he became a protagonist alongside Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem in the F1 film that will be released in June 2025.
2. AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON
If there's one name that cannot be missing from this list, it is that of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. In fact, The Sun went so far as to assure that Taylor had already auditioned and was the chosen one, although it was never confirmed: "He is the perfect person to play Bond and will pick up well from where Daniel left off." These days, he has been asked again about Bond, taking advantage of the promotion of his latest film, Kraven the Hunter, but he has evaded the question. Will Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who tops all the bets, be the new James Bond? He has proven his chops as Dave Lizewski in Kick-Ass, as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and, above all, his disturbing role as a villain in the psychological 2016 thriller Nocturnal Animals. He has also recently been featured in action films such as Tenet and Bullet Train. At the same time, he can show an emotional side tied to Bond's humanization. The actor George Lazenby, who starred as Bond in the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, has said of Taylor-Johnson that he can "handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux." Attractive, stylish, adrenaline addict, intense, and emotional are golden ingredients for a great 007.
3. THEO JAMES
Who does not imagine Theo James as an impeccable James Bond after seeing his charming, aristocratic, yet lethal poise in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentleman"? He is the perfect 007, able to be a ruthless killer and fiery lover and never lose his composure. In action films, he has shown a magnificent athletic form, but he has also been able to show a romantic side. Nevertheless, in "The White Lotus", he had the air of a lone wolf that fits Bond's individualistic and rebellious character. Let's not fool ourselves; no one can wear a gala suit with the impeccable style of Theo James!
4. HENRY CAVILL
Henry Cavill is another of those perfect Bonds that could have come straight out of Ian Fleming's imagination: Big, muscular, perfect face, blue eyes, and a gentlemanly manner that would delight 007 fans. In fact, he already auditioned for the role in 2005, when he was just 20 years old, and according to the director of Casino Royale, Martin Campbell, "He looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous." Sixteen years later, he has the perfect experience and physique to play 007, although, if he was too young before, at 42, he might be a bit too old now. It also plays in his favor that he has already starred in a long list of spy films, from Napoleon Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. to the evil killer August Walker in Mission Impossible - Fallout. However, his association with franchises such as "The Witcher" the DCU's Superman could also be a disadvantage because they have marked his image a lot. Still, Cavill can reinvent himself and offer a renewed Bond.
5. CALLUM TURNER
Callum Turner is of perfect age (34), he's charming, and, at the same time, has a good physique. He has a very British James Bond air, with a nostalgic look that gives him a mysterious character. He is the Bond capable of killing an enemy and crying for a lost love, powerful and tender at the same time. In addition, he has an essential advantage over the rest of the options: he is not excessively famous, preventing Bond from being associated with any character previously played by Turner. In a way, he is an actor who arrives more fresh than others. Can the actor of Fantastic Beasts and "Masters of the Air" be a great Bond? For sure. And above all, it would give the character different characteristics from the previous Bond. Indeed, Turner is also a safe choice to start a new stage in the long life of the most famous British spy in history.
Who will be the next James Bond? It's a question that permeates Hollywood every decade or so. For the sake of our nerves, we hope that the mystery will be revealed soon!
