"Daisy Jones and the Six" as a TV show. The rise of band Måneskin. Demi Lovato’s Rock & Roll version of “Heart Attack” released on March 24.

People. Rock & Roll is coming back, and already the edgy yet chic styles that define the genre are coming with it. Of course, this \already germinated on TikTok last year, where early adopters dubbed the new look "The Rockstar’s Girlfriend" aesthetic —however, with more mainstream rock success of late, the style seems to be catching on in popularity rather than dying out as some TikTok trends do rather quickly.

The Rockstar’s Girlfriend has been a bit complicated from the start, due to its name, which focuses on women as an accessory to a man. While it pays homage to famous, fashionable women who have dated rockstars over the years — like Bianca Jagger, Alexa Chung, Lisa Bonet, and Yoko Ono, to name a fraction — there are issues regarding the fact that these women are far more than a rockstar’s girlfriend. So, we say, be the rockstar! And here’s how you can do it.

A big focus of the Rock & Roll look is on texture, so fabrics like leather and fur (real or faux), denim, and simple cotton shirts work as an understated combination to create the greater look. Things like a well-fitting pair of bell-bottoms or straight-leg jeans is something many people already own, along with cotton tees. If you’re looking to get into the look without fully committing, it’s easy to throw on a timeless leather jacket and pair of kickass boots on top of your favorite tee and jeans combo. The great part about the Rockstar’s Girlfriend aesthetic is that it's adaptable and uses pieces that work for a variety of styles, so it’s not difficult to try it out without needing to buy lots of things. A pro tip for T-shirts is to find or DIY a more baby-tee style that cuts off right above the hipbones; these look great and are trendy right now.

If you’re ready to commit deeper, many looks focus on a color palette of reds, blacks, and whites, though lots of people “rocking” the look go for a more colorful, bohemian look reminiscent of '60s stars like Janis Joplin. Metallics are omnipresent, with moon-like silver taking precedence over gold. Make-up can also work to accessorize, with slept-in eyeliner and smudgy, just-kissed lip stains creating the illusion of late, exciting nights. The rockstar look is all about low-maintenance cool vibes and a more relaxed approach to beauty. Other elements include choker necklaces, sunglasses, and small leather bags. The key is to think outside the box and not be afraid of trying something unconventional.

If you’re someone who loves going out on Friday night to the indie house show, or spends Sundays in your favorite record store, this look may be for you. It wraps elements from the '70s, '90s, and 2010s into something modern and adaptable for if you want an edgier look or a softer look. The rocker girl’s legacy of style icons is unquestionable; all you really need to rock out better than any guy is confidence, your favorite boots, and a pair of headphones to listen to your favorite women rock artists.
