ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Megan Moroney

Written by Madison Childress. Published: June 26 2025

Megan Moroney is quickly becoming one of the brightest new stars in country music, capturing attention with her unique voice and authentic storytelling. Megan attended the University of Georgia from 2016 to 2020 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. Her path to fame was unconventional; when she was a freshman, she was pressured by her sisters into performing at the annual sorority pageant. And that turned out to be where she was first discovered! What started as a casual performance of “Strawberry Wine” with her dad at her sorority’s annual pageant has blossomed into a career that's turning heads across the country music scene.

She released her debut EP, Pistol Made of Roses, in 2022, marking her official introduction to the music scene. The breakout hit track, “Hair Salon”, quickly captured listeners' attention, establishing her as an artist to watch in country music. The track tells the story of an ordinary trip to the hair salon that takes an emotional turn when Megan overhears unexpected gossip -- her ex is getting engaged to his new girlfriend.

Megan even gave fans a reveal of the real-life hairstylist, Bernadette (yes, the very one Megan sings about in the song), in a fun behind-the-scenes clip on her TikTok!

Her follow-up single, "Tennessee Orange", went viral across TikTok, catapulting her into the national spotlight and earning her a record deal. The catchy track peaked at number 10 on the Hot Country Songs chart and eventually earned a nomination for Song of the Year at the 57th annual CMA Awards, solidifying it as Megan’s “little song that could”. It resonates with Vols and Dawgs fans alike.

Following the success of “Tennessee Orange”, her first full album, Lucky, was released in 2023 and reached the top 40 of the Billboard 200. The album ranges from party bops like “Lucky” to sad, introspective tracks like “Girl In The Mirror”, showcasing Moroney’s range. Here are 3 standout tracks from the album that we think deserve a permanent spot on your playlist:

"Sleep On My Side"

In this sassy breakup track, Megan flips the script on her toxic ex. The clever lyrics and laid-back beat make it an incredibly catchy track that gets stuck in your head for days.

"Sad Songs For Sad People"

This deep-cut shows Megan Moroney at her most introspective. It's an ode to those who find comfort in heartbreak anthems -- a beautiful reminder that sometimes the saddest songs say precisely what we’re feeling.

"I’m Not Pretty"

In this fun, sassy song, Megan turns insecurity into empowerment. Packed with clever lyrics and Southern charm, the song calls out the ugly jealousy seen in her boyfriend’s ex. It’s the ultimate clapback anthem for anyone who has ever dealt with a mean girl.

Megan's latest album, Am I Okay?, debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200 and has continued to show success. She is currently on the Am I Okay? Tour and is selling out venues nationwide. Again, Megan proves her range with fun, upbeat tracks like “Man On The Moon”, slow, sad songs like “28th of June”, and raw, rock-inspired tracks like “Indifferent”. We've narrowed it down to our top 3 standout tracks from the album, must-adds for your playlist!

"No Caller ID"

“No Caller ID” is the perfect song for any girl who has ever had a *67 moment. In this raw and emotional song, Megan captures the gut-wrenching feeling of getting a late-night call from your ex.

"Noah"

"Noah" is a standout moment on the album that showcases Megan’s songwriting skills and knack for transforming her pain into poetry. In this track, she looks back on a teenage romance and wonders if she ever crosses his mind too.

"Break It Right Back"

This is a fiery anthem for any girl who has been left brokenhearted by the one who was supposed to mend it. It is a bold, raw track where Megan seeks empowerment in the midst of her heartbreak.
