A Guide to Walt Disney's 100th Anniversary Celebrations!

Written by Tashi Rios. Published: February 02 2023

The Walt Disney Company is celebrating their 100th anniversary since they were founded in 1923. Yes, not the theme park but the company itself. Disney is celebrating with exclusive merchandise, new toys, and lots of celebrations at Disneyland. Let’s take a look to see how Disney is bringing the magic!

MERCHANDISE

The celebration merchandise features platinum, silver, and purple. They’ve released platinum Mickey-stuffed animals, Loungefly backpacks, spirit jerseys, and more. There are three ears released, one with silver rhinestones on both ears, a purple bow, and “Disney 100” emblem in the center. The second option is a $175 pair that features black fabric ears with platinum drips on each side with a large silver bow in the middle. The last is a transparent ear with a castle and large orange bow.

Now for the toys. Disney is dropping their own Disney100 collection for both Funko and LEGO. This is an exclusive collection! Funko Pop has figures including iconic movie moments like Moana on the boat or Tiana for their diamond collection. So cute!

The first wave of the LEGO collection features Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Mickey's predecessor), Mickey Mouse, Snow White, and Tinker Bell. We expect LEGO to drop more as the celebration continues, and we hope Minnie Mouse will make an appearance!

DISNEYLAND

On January 27, Disneyland opened Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway located in Toontown. The ride takes you into the world of Mickey and Minnie when you board a train with Goofy. Currently, the ride does not have a standby line and is only available through the Individual Lightning Lane or the Virtual Queue, which opens at 7am and 1pm.

There is also a new firework show called “Wondrous Journeys” that takes place throughout Main Street and on the Castle. It shares iconic moments from Walt Disney’s 100 years, including Hercules, The Princess and the Frog, Big Hero 6, and many many more. Even Baymax joins the party, flying over the castle!

World of Color has a new story called "ONE" which not only features Walt Disney Animation Studios projects but also includes magic from Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. What a great addition!

But now the best part: the FOOD. Disney has released multiple new treats to celebrate, including Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as a cute caramel apple. A platinum Mickey Mouse sipper also debuted in his purple and silver outfit.

They’re even celebrating in restaurants across the whole park! Blue Bayou has a celebration cake and Disney100 champagne glasses, while Galactic Grill is offering a platinum trifle and old-fashioned cream soda. Even better, the purple makes an appearance in the refreshment corner! They have violet pretzels with lavender sugar and sparkling grape soda, plus churros with purple sugar, white icing, and purple and silver pearls. We have to try EVERYTHING!

Disneyland is also sharing a variety of different decorations. The characters have platinum costumes, the Monorail is on theme, and to top it off, the Magic Happens Parade will return after running for less than two weeks due to COVID-19.

How are you going to celebrate Disney 100?
