5 of the Most Out-of-the-Box Celebrity Baby Names!

Written by Hannah Shariff. Published: March 30 2022

With the birth of Kylie Jenner’s second child, many netizens were wondering what the new baby would be named — after all, what could possibly top Stormi? To their surprise, though, the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star announced that her son would be named Wolf. Yes, Wolf as in the canine creature. While Kylie ended up changing the name of her son because “we just really didn’t feel like it was him,” she isn’t the first celeb to choose a unique name for their baby. Here are a few of the most out-of-the-box names that celebrities have named their children!

1. Apple

One of the first modern-day celebrity baby names to shake up the press was the name given to Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin’s daughter. The unconventional name Apple was chosen by the pair for a sweet reason. In an interview with Oprah back in 2004, Paltrow revealed that they chose the name due to its Biblical meaning as well as its connotation to being a happy and wholesome entity.

2. Blue Ivy

The color Blue was chosen as the name of Beyoncé’s first child with Jay-Z. Both have hinted at their love for the color, which may be the reason why they named their daughter after it.

3. Kulture

Cardi B and Offset named their daughter Kulture simply because “anything else woulda been basic.” Cardi was originally thinking of naming her daughter HennyLynn, a combination of her sisters’ names. However, she ended up going with Kulture after using the nickname HennyLynn for one of her own sisters.

4. X Æ A-12

The infamous moniker was chosen by the strangest of power couples: alt-pop singer Grimes and Tesla founder Elon Musk. The name represents a lot for the pair, and Grimes broke each letter down for fans in a tweet -- X stands for the unknown variable, while Æ (pronounced "Ash") stands for love and artificial intelligence. A-12 derives from the CIA aircraft with a similar name. It’s a lot to live up to!

5. James

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds didn’t name their son James -- instead, it's the name given to their eldest daughter. In an interview with People, Reynolds said, "In the spectrum of weird celebrity baby names, I don't really feel like we're breaking new ground here. I didn't call her Summer Squash Meadowlark." However, he did reveal the intimate nature behind the name, explaining, "My father just passed away, but my daughter's named after him."
