It has been found that people spend an average of up to 11 hours a week scrolling through TikTok. Personally, I think I spend upwards of 3 hours scrolling on the app a day. And with videos like fashion hauls, political arguments, and Barstool-like videos filling up your feed, there's admittedly a lack of educationally engaging content.

With all the time that people spend on social media, there’s less time for more important things – such as education. Although there has been a link between social media use and academic failure, social media can actually increase your width of knowledge if used wisely. Instead of mind-numbing scrolling on the app, use TikTok wisely to feed yourself valuable knowledge with these accounts!

1. Mamadou B. Ndiaye (@mndiaye_97)

Ndiaye is a 25-year-old who has a following of 16 million on TikTok. He posts regularly on the app and also has a YouTube channel called Casual Geographic which has 3 million subscribers. His content focuses on education about animals. He began a series on TikTok in 2021 called “Ruining Animals” that gained significant popularity. His witty humor as well as his interesting facts on the world's wildlife keeps his audience entertained and well-informed. This series focuses on animals that people generally find harmless and cute. He proceeds to tell disturbing yet accurate facts about these animals that people rarely know about.

After growing popularity from this series, Ndiaye began creating more content surrounding animals. He has another series called “Wholesome Facts”, which counters the previous series by informing audiences of the amazing nature and capabilities of animals that people find both lovable and terrifying.

His other series, “Animal Beefs”, informs his following of animals in nature that generally do not get along. Whether it's hyenas vs lions or crocodiles vs sharks, Ndiaye keeps his audience captivated with his straight-face humor and witty commentary.

2. Ugo Lord (@ugolord)

Based in Rochester, Minnesota, Ugo is a 28-year-old attorney who has over 6.6 million followers on TikTok. With his legal knowledge, he amassed a significant following where he continues to post new videos regularly. He is also a motivational speaker, discusses controversial issues, and has even appeared on Fox News. His TikTok account gained popularity with his "Lawyer’s Reaction" videos and specifically with series like “Who’s Liable”, where he shows videos of car accidents, property damage, "Karen" incidents, fights, Ring camera footage, and anything captured on phone cameras in which legal liability is a question. He allows his audience to guess who they believe is liable with a poll and then discusses the law to determine who is liable for the damages.

He also has other series such as “Guilty or Not Guilty?”, “Legal Facts”, and “Name the Crime!”, where he allows audiences to make guesses based on the legal system and then informs viewers with the correct answers. His videos are engaging and interactive, which makes them easy and fun to watch.

He also helps audiences stay up-to-date on current events with his series called “News Storie,s” where he informs people of what is currently going on in the news and uses it to give opinions and legal advice. If you are like me and find current events boring and depressing, his videos keep you in the loop while thoroughly entertained.

3. Filip Zieba (@filspixel)

Focusing on space, theories about ancient civilizations, and interesting conspiracy theories, Zieba keeps his audience entertained throughout all the information he throws at them. With around 780,000 followers on TikTok and over 20 million likes, his videos are popular and engaging. He has an interesting style of narration in his videos. He talks quickly but hooks viewers in with his captivating introductions and entertaining graphics. His inclusion of background pictures, videos, and animations provide insight to the information he is sharing while explaining complex topics in a way that is easy to understand and retain.

His most popular videos are the ones that shed light on scientists’ theories on space. He manages to never run out of interesting and thought-provoking topics. In just a little over a minute, he is able to explain, in layman’s terms, how things like wormholes would potentially work in space based on complex theories from the world’s most intelligent people.

He examines theories about ancient civilizations and ancient structures that still have archeologists and scientists puzzled about their origins. With these videos, he allows his audience the chance to explore these topics in more depth by demonstrating how little we know about past and current life here on Earth.

4. Evan Guerrero (@evanthorizon)

Physics is a difficult topic for many to grasp, but Guerrero makes learning about physics fun and entertaining. Not a lot of personal information is known about him, but he has amassed a following of 2.3 million on TikTok with over 38 million likes. His videos appear on the app’s new STEM page, making his content easily accessible. His videos all deal with physics in relation to space and what is known/unknown about the Universe at present. His content delivery is unique, and under his series “Evan & Evan”, he provides information to his audience by engaging in a back-and-forth, question-and-answer format with himself.

His astronomy content keeps his audience entertained through his use of images and videos to create a better understanding of the physics he describes. In his series “Science Stories”, he talks directly to his audience with captivating visuals and high energy that is sure to grab his audience’s attention.

5. Med Twins (@medtwins_)

Based in the United Kingdom, these two twin brothers are medical students who use their platform to educate their audience on human anatomy. They have over 50k followers on TikTok with almost 400k likes. They also have a YouTube channel under the same name where they go in further depth on topics discussed on their TikTok videos. They cover various medical issues, anatomy names, diagnostic tools, and how to read certain medical equipment. They have a series named “Anatomy Quiz” and “Diagnosis Quiz” that each allow viewers to guess either questions about anatomy or various medical problems that humans can experience. The interactive videos keep people informed about the human body while also creating a fun game-like atmosphere.

They respond quickly to comments from viewers that ask medical questions and make sure to frequently interact with their audience. They have addressed comments about common medical occurrences, such as kidney stones, to help commenters understand how these issues can occur or what to look out for in terms of signs or symptoms.

Their content is easily digestible with the help of multiple diagrams that they use to describe the anatomy they are discussing. With the detail of these diagrams, it is easy for people who have not studied in the field of health or medicine to understand and leave their audience with a desire to learn more from their more in-depth videos on their YouTube channel.
