The end of Summer is always bittersweet, but this recent announcement couldn’t bring Fall faster! A "One Tree Hill Reboot" is in the works, so get your steaming cups of coffee from Karen’sCafe and head to the Tree Hill Ravens basketball game. Seriously, fans could not be more excited about their beloved show coming back for a new spin, so let’s break down everything we currently know about the much-anticipated reboot!
"One Tree Hill", which first premiered in September of 2003, revolves around the lives of two half-brothers, Lucas (played by Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (played by James Lafferty), as Lucas battles Nathan for a spot on their school's basketball team and deal with the turmoil that results from their romantic relationships. Running for 9 seasons from 2003 to 2012, the show debuted on The WB before it started airing on The CW for the fourth season after the WB and UPN merger that formed The CW.
According to reports, Sophia Bush, who played Brooke Davis, and Hilarie Burton Morgan, who played Peyton Sawyer, are set to reprise their roles as well as executive produce. The project has landed at Netflix with writer Becky Hartman Edwards, best known for "Firefly Lane" and "Parenthood", who will executive produce and write. Other producers include Jensen and Danneel Ackles, who are best known for their roles on 2000s teen shows such as "Dawson’s Creek", "Smallville", "Supernatural", and of course, "One Tree Hill".
Sophia Bush posted to Instagram with fellow actors captioning her photo “There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.”
Deadlinereports that the show will pick up 20 years after the events of the first season, with "best friends Brooke and Peyton, who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar with what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities, and grief.”
Fans are speculating if any other original cast members will return. Although nothing has been confirmed, people are rooting for Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, and Bethany Joy Lenz to come back.
"One Tree Hill" is available to stream on Hulu, Max, and Prime Video! You can also catch up with all things OG "OTH" on Sophia, Hilarie, and Bethany's "OTH" podcast "Drama Queens"!
