Everything We Know So Far About The New "The Office" Spinoff!
Calling all fans of “The Office” – if there has been a Dunder-Mifflin-sized hole in your heart since the beloved NBC sitcom/mockumentary took its final bow over a decade ago, you’ll want to pay attention to this!
Peacock has officially given the green light for an all-new spinoff of “The Office” which reportedly takes place in the same universe! The as-yet untitled series is the brain child of Greg Daniels, the man who adapted the original series from the Ricky Gervais-led British version it was based on – and “Nathan For You” co-creator Michael Koman. The series was announced a few months ago as being in development but now it has been picked up by the NBC-affiliated streamer!
Only a handful of details about the new series exist at this point but they sound intriguing! The titular office setting in this show moves from the world of blank paper to the world of newspaper. The “documentary crew” of the original show heads to the Midwest to focus their attentions on a newspaper publisher trying to stay afloat in the modern digital world. To that end, the staff consists mainly of volunteer journalists.
So far, we only have two confirmed castmembers, but they are definitely enough to get our attention: Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson, best known for his work in movies like Ex Machina and the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, and Italian actress Sabrina Impacciatore, who got lots of attention here in the States (and an Emmy nomination) for her role as Valentina in Season 2 of “The White Lotus”! Both these actors are known for playing figures of authority – plus proven comedy chops – so either one of them would be a great candidate for the Michael Scott equivalent in the new series!
Production is slated to start in July, so we expect more casting announcements in the very near future. Stay tuned!
