Everything We Know About the Blair Waldorf Sequel!

Wake up, Upper East Siders! Can you believe it's been almost 14 years since "Gossip Girl" concluded its original 6-year run? It was more than just a teen sitcom; it was a cultural phenomenon. The show gave us iconic storylines, bold fashion choices, and memorable characters that we all miss. Lucky for us, Upper East Side It-Girl, Blair Waldorf, is making a comeback, and here’s everything we know so far!
New Novel
The "Gossip Girl" TV series was based on the series of novels of the same name by Cecily Von Ziegesar. Similar to the show, these books followed a group of students on Manhattan's Upper East Side whose private lives are under the constant surveillance of a blogger known as "Gossip Girl". This anonymous blogger is constantly posting their whereabouts and secrets on her website, creating chaos for the characters. The first novel Gossip Girl was released in April 2002, and the last novel in this series, Don’t You Forget About Me, was released in May 2007, and now, 18 years later, Ziegesar is working on an all-new Gossip Girl spin-off novel for Alloy Entertainment. The book will be titled Blair and will focus, of course, on Blair Waldorf and her life 20 years after graduating high school. In this book, she will return to New York to regain her Queen Bee status.
Blair Waldorf Latest TV Update
In the final episode of "Gossip Girl", which aired in December 2012, we got a glimpse into what the future holds for our beloved characters. The episode ends with a time jump 5 years into the future, where it’s revealed that Blair is still married to her long-term partner, Chuck Bass, and they have a son together, Henry. She has also fully taken over her mother’s clothing company and is a thriving businesswoman.
In 2021, "Gossip Girl" was rebooted. The series was produced by Alloy Entertainment and followed a new generation of rich Upper East Side teenagers. Many of the OG characters made appearances in this show. including Blair Waldorf’s mom, Eleanor. In the Final Cancellation episode, Eleanor reveals that Blair, Chuck, and Henry have all moved to Paris, France, where she continues to run Waldorf Designs.
Blair’s Book Series Update
There were many differences between the Blair Waldorf we knew on screen and the Blair Waldorf in the book series. Similar to the books, main characters Blair and Serena attended the prestigious Constance Billboard School. In the books, Blair and Serena’s relationship followed a frenemies trope, just like they did in the TV series. However, in the books, Blair attends Yale University instead of NYU, and her relationship with Nate Archibald is also more meaningful and lasting. The book series ends with her enrolling at Yale Law instead of taking over her mother’s company. She also doesn’t marry Chuck Bass and focuses on her career more than on a romantic relationship. Fans of the series can’t imagine Blair without Chuck, but in the books, their romantic relationship never happens. While both the books and TV show showed Blair as the ultimate Queen Bee, Blair is a sequel to the Gossip Girl book series and not a continuation of the CW TV show canon. Therefore, don’t expect a Chair reunion,
Book’s Release Date and Screen Plans
Even though there is no specific release date yet, Blair is currently scheduled for a tentative release date in the Summer of 2027. As of right now, Blair will be available only in book form. There are no confirmed plans for a TV or film adaptation. However, Alloy Entertainment holds the film and television rights to Blair, meaning there is a chance for a scripted project down the line. If these plans come to fruition, we would love to see the original Blair Waldorf actress, Leighton Meester, reprise her role!
