Blockbuster Season Isn't Over Yet: 8 Must-See Fall/Winter Releases!

I have come to think of 2025 as one long game of Candyland -- a colorful path filled with endless cinematic treats. Along the way, we’ve stopped at Peppermint Forest to enjoy films like How to Train Your Dragon and F1 before climbing Gumdrop Mountain with Fantastic Four, Superman, and Jurassic Park: Rebirth. Well, let’s hope you’re not getting too much of a sugar rush, because the rest of 2025 promises another wave of blockbusters that might be considered must-sees.
1. Wicked: For Good (November 21)
Fans will once again return to the land of Oz, because Elphaba’s story is far from over. After the smash success of Wicked last Fall, audiences were wrecking their Spotify Wrapped with hits like “What is This Feeling?”, “Popular”, and “Defying Gravity”. It was fantastical, invigorating, and memorable in all the best ways. Now, it’s time to run it back. The sequel promises to reveal the twists and turns of Elphaba’s journey and deliver a breathtaking finale to this duology. If you don’t know how it ends, let us just say, you’re in for a treat.
2. Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19)
The third chapter in James Cameron’s vibrant, escapist saga arrives later this year, and we can’t wait to return to Pandora. This time, Jake and his family will find themselves caught not only in rising tensions with the decolonizing humans, led by Colonel Miles Quaritch, but also in conflict with a never-before-seen tribe: the Fire Nation. From the hyperrealistic beauty of Pandora’s landscapes to the complex dynamics in the Sully family, and, of course, heart-pounding action sequences, fans are in for an unforgettable ride. Some might say a real treat… (okay, no more candy metaphors).
3. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (December 5)
Freddy and his bloodthirsty crew of killer animatronics are back, this time at the original Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza rather than the franchise location from the first film. That shift means fans can expect chilling new designs for these haunted androids (as if we needed to make them any scarier). Adding to the excitement, McKenna Grace and horror veteran Skeet Ulrich (Billy Loomis from Scream) join returning cast members Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, and Elizabeth Lail. With this lineup, the sequel is poised to make a serious impact.
4. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (November 14)
It’s been more than a decade since we got to see Dave Franco combat authorities with nothing but a deck of cards, and that just doesn’t sit right with us. Luckily, the wait is almost over. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t arrives in theaters this Fall, bringing back the ragtag team of elusive, thieving magicians known as the Horsemen. This time, they’re joined by fresh talent, including breakout star Ariana Greenblatt and fan-favorite Justice Smith. Everyone loves a clever heist, but add a dose of sleight-of-hand and mind-bending illusions? That’s a recipe for blockbuster magic.
5. Wake Up Dead Man (December 12)
The Knives Out films have been a runaway success, especially for those who prefer the thrill of a new release from the comfort of their sofa, thanks to Netflix’s distribution. While details about the third installment remain tightly under wraps, one thing is sure: with Daniel Craig returning as the ever-enigmatic detective Benoit Blanc, audiences can expect a mystery that is gripping, tension-filled, and utterly captivating.
6. Frankenstein (November 7)
Speaking of Netflix, Guillermo del Toro’s highly-anticipated take on Frankenstein is set to debut in early November. And for those of us yearning for both a theatrical run and an October release to align with Spooky Season, we're in luck, because the film will have a limited theatrical release starting October 17! There’s no doubt Jacob Elordi’s take on the iconic monster will have audiences buzzing for weeks. Add in del Toro’s signature darkly imaginative filmmaking style and Oscar Isaac as Dr. Frankenstein and it’s safe to say we’re all in for this bold new vision of the classic tale.
7. Marty Supreme (December 25)
Will Timothée Chalamet finally clinch the Oscar he’s been chasing? He just might with Marty Supreme, an upcoming A24 release arriving this Winter. Chalamet takes on the role of a young man striving for glory as an elite table tennis player – a premise that may not sound too thrilling on paper, but if the trailer is any indication, this film is shaping up to be just that.
8. Predator: Badlands (November 7)
Everyone loves a good sci-fi flick, and with the recent resurgence in the monster department (Godzilla, xenomorphs, etc), fans are sure to be well-fed as Dan Trachtenberg, director of 2022’s acclaimed Prey, is back to expand the Predator universe once more. This installment follows a young Yautja who, according to IMDb, has been “outcast from his clan” and embarks on a perilous journey in search of the “ultimate adversary.”
With a lineup like this, the excitement is far from over. Whether you’re craving action, horror, musicals, dramas, mysteries, or a little bit of everything, there’s an entertaining road ahead. And when December 31 rolls around, and we finally make it to King Kandy’s Castle, we can look back at what we were given, but also ahead at what’s to come in 2026. But that’s an article for another day. Until then, grab your popcorn, and maybe a bag of Sour Patch Kids, and let’s hit the movies!
