You're the first magician to ever win America's got talent. You're Matt Franco.
That's true. Yes.
I've come to Vegas to see you. Oh, this is amazing. All of Young Hollywood has come to see you.
Uh, I'm so honored to be here with Young Hollywood. I'm not in Hollywood or even that young, so I really appreciate it.
And we're backstage. You're about, I don't know, half hour near showtime?
Yes, we'll be opening doors in about that time, yeah.
Wow, walk me through what happens back here pre-show.
I come in and I get dressed and then I do the show. And then the thing we're excited like.
Fair enough. No, no. Okay. Did you think of going into stand-up because you are very funny.
I've always thank you. I've always been jealous of stand-up comedies because they don't need any props at all. They can just go out there with nothing and do a whole 90 minutes. You know, that's impressive to me, cuz I have props to hide behind. Even if they're small, still can hide behind them, you know.
I think that is what distinguishes you amongst all the other magicians. You're comedic timing, you're hilarious. I appreciate it. Show me around here.
Okay, what do you wanna see?
I don't know, what can Um, I should say what can't you show me? I I don't know.
The This is uh the lid to the ramen box. I borrow $100 bill from an audience member. They sign it. And at the end, it appears inside of a ramen package that they choose out of a thousand. These are my playing cards. So these are used in the show if you step this way so you can see here. Can you see this on camera? Okay. So this is what I mean by just doing kind of sleight of hand what you do is you take the cards. Oops, I dropped 'em but you can you can get more. You know what I mean? So if you drop 'em, you can just produce another one and another one and another one and another one. Sometimes people think they're back here but you can show both sides and they still come out. I'm not sure how. Right? Card throwing is fun. So you can learn do and learn how to boomerang a card. Huh? Yes. Here. Take like this, right? So basically to boomerang the card, you're gonna put your finger on it. You almost throw it like a frisbee. And you throw it up at an angle this way. It goes out and it'll come back to you. That was actually not bad. It didn't come back but you got the spin.
Thanks.
You know and then with practice, you can throw 'em all kinds of ways like this. And you can take out your camera guy.
We need him. Oh, okay, sorry I'll stop. Yeah. My I I apologize. Should we put these away then?
No, I want more tricks. I want more. Yes. Yes. Oh, I'm sorry. I apologize. This is too much. I woke up 3:00 in the morning cards all over the bed. More! More! I actually had something I wanted to show you. Yeah. We could do it maybe we have a maybe on stage. So there's a table, yeah?
I'd be honored. All right, let's go. Okay. Let's do it. Okay, so we're at your table. We're on your stage at the Matt Franco Theater. Can I just say this theater is bigger than I thought. But it feels intimate. It really does. Yeah. This is a gorgeous space.
Oh, thank you. I appreciate it. Yeah, we worked hard on it making it look good and making it feel like a real experience.
How do you make the magic intimate in such a large space?
I uh involve the audience with everything. So every step of the way, I know we're going from point A to point B but the audience helps guide how we get there. That's why the tagline's magic reinvented nightly. I just wanted to try something with you. Okay. Little bit of an experiment. Okay. And we have just a few cards here and we'll lay them out onto the table. I'm moving that. This is our starting point. The ace here. Logically, that way there's no way I can change that. That's where we're gonna start. Okay. Lastly, I do have an invention to show you. This is the world's first pair of invisible dice. You take them. Roll the dice in the circle. What two numbers did you roll?
A one and a one.
So that's only two two positions. Like a board game. Yeah. So you simply move the box like so. One, two exactly how I show you. Mhm. Okay. Okay. So that would make four spades. Now if you rolled six or seven it'd be impossible to land there or any other number you say would be a different spot but four spades is okay. Yeah. Four spades is your destiny. Go ahead, open the box. Mhm. But destiny has a name and it's yours. You keep this. This is for you.
Thanks.
Uh, I'm gonna hand this to you. Okay. I'm gonna try to put an idea in your head. Do you believe that's possible? Let's try. So this is different than mind reading. I'm gonna try to put something in your help you receive a thought but you have to be willing to receive it.
I'm game.
I just removed half the deck. Did I remove black or red?
Black.
Absolutely right. She's good. That would mean I'm holding clubs and spades. Is it clubs or spades? Which answer is correct? I'm sending it to you now.
Clubs.
Unbelievable. Wow, she's very good. We're gonna speed it up and eliminate half of them. When I snap my fingers, you say higher or low.
Low.
Wow. I can't believe you're doing this. So low cards might be ace, two, three, four, five, six. Maybe seven is low too. Ace through seven. I'm sending you the answer now.
Ace?
There's only one way to get it. Are you sure? Sure. Positive? Sure. So ace of clubs? Did I say clubs? Yes, ace of clubs. If you want. This has been in your hand the whole time. This is a full deck. The ace of clubs is here in the deck. Let me know when you see it. There you go. And out of 52 choices, the ace of clubs is the one and you got it. Congratulations. That was the one I wanted you to say. You don't believe me? No. Well, you can tell because that's the one with the blue back. The whole deck is red.
How long does it take you to master a trick like that?
Probably not as long as it took me to explain it to you after. I'm joking. I'm joking. Oh, my head. Uh, a long time. Some of this stuff I work on for years and it never even comes to fruition to be honest with you. Yeah, but it's fun. I enjoy the process. It's all about, you know, you gotta enjoy the journey along the way.
Well, you said the word journey. Take me through your journey, little guy. Yeah. Matt, when you started.
Yeah, I got into magic I was four years old saw it on TV. Begged my parents to get me a magic set. Next thing you know, I was bringing it into kindergarten the next week for show and tell. And the next thing you know, we land in Las Vegas. We celebrated our 10 year anniversary over the summer. And! And! You knew where I was going with this.
Congratulations are in order.
Thank you. Yes. You're staying around. We just renewed for five more years here at the link at the Matt Franco Theater.
