ARTIST TO WATCH: Maude Latour
New Yorker, recent Columbia University graduate and… pop star? Singer-songwriter Maude Latour is on her way there!
Harnessing an indie-pop style to write songs about everything from heartbreak to female empowerment, Maude started making music at the age of 15 and released her first EP High School High in 2018 when she was 17. Writing about the release at the time on Instagram, the artist said, “I hope whether thru my music or just talking on the phone, we can realize how similar our experiences are,” a sweet desire for people to listen to her music and feel understood evident from the beginning.
Her second EP released in 2019, Starsick, included tracks that discussed her fear of being lonely, being nostalgic for past love, and a desire to save the planet, while her third EP, Strangers Forever, brought with it her first headlining tour in the Spring of 2022. She embarked on a second 2022 tour that Fall to promote her fourth EP 001.
When it comes to describing Maude’s performance style, "energetic" doesn’t feel like a strong enough word! Jumping around the stage, or sometimes even jumping up onto a well-placed speaker, Maude captivates her audience. Whether she’s leading her fans in a chant about being “done dating bad guys”, rocking out with her guitarist to "Living It", or hopping down to join fans off-stage when singing her hit "One More Weekend", it’s clear how much Maude loves what she does.

And it’s that passion for her art that appears to have been the driving force behind her latest EP, released just this June, Twin Flame, which Maude described in an Instagram post as being for “a shimmering summer”. The tracks cover heartache with lyrics about having a crush on someone with a girlfriend, and wanting someone to give you the chance to apologize. But the EP also explores the endearing side of love with songs like "Heaven", where Maude croones about dreaming of someone when they’re lying right next to you.
While her sound has changed some since her first EP, the vulnerability Maude is willing to share in her music hasn’t. That vulnerability, shown in both her lyrics and her relationship with fans -- 75 of whom she invited to an in-person listening session before the EP dropped -- is what makes Maude special. In a world where music artists at large have begun to seem like unreachable members of entertainment royalty, Maude Latour feels more like a close friend.
Just yesterday (June 13), Maude announced her next headlining U.S. Twin Flame Tour this Fall, which kicks off on September 16 in Atlanta. For more info and tickets, click here!
