Written by Gabriella Pérez. Published: October 02 2023

In honor of Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month, we're giving you a list of female Latinx/Hispanic artists that everyone should add to their daily mix of music!

1. Karol G

Karol G, otherwise known as "La Bichota", is currently having her biggest year in her career. With her release of her fourth album Mañana Será Bonito, Karol has been making waves with it being the first all-Spanish language recorded album by a woman to debut at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Originally from Colombia, Karol G sings predominantly in Spanish, but often brings in other genres of Latin music such as Cumbia, Corridos, and Brazilian Funk. Karol G is currently on a stadium tour for MSB, as well as her newest album Mañana Será Bonito: Bichota Season.

2. Bad Gyal

Originating from Catalonia, Spain, Bad Gyal is a Spanish singer-songwriter, DJ, and more. Bad Gyal is known for her use of auto-tune, EDM, and dancehall flair that she flawlessly mixes with reggaeton-pop. Bad Gyal’s most popular song currently is her fourth single from her upcoming debut album La Joia -- the song is called "Chulo" and it has fans everywhere listening, dancing, and making TikToks to it. The song went viral on TikTok with people using an old age filter and pretending to be themselves in the future, still partying and singing the lyrics to the song. Bad Gyal doesn’t have a set date for the release of La Joia, but stay tuned!

3. Becky G

American singer-songwriter, actor, and activist Becky G has been making moves in the music industry since 2011 after being discovered through YouTube where she posted covers of herself singing. Since then, Becky has gone on to work with artists such as J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, Christina Aguilera, and many more. Becky currently has 3 albums under her belt, with the most recent Esquinas having just been released last week (September 28). Becky has explored Pop, Reggaeton, Hip-Hop, and now regional Mexican music.

4. Anitta

From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Anitta is paving the way for mainstream Brazilian Funk. Anitta has been making music since 2012 but, in 2022, the lead single from her 4th studio album Versions of Me, topped the Spotify Global Top 50 charts. The song, "Envolver", continued to peak at number 2 on Billboard Global charts, making Anitta the first Brazilian artist to do so. Since then, Anitta has continued to make music in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, as well as acting in Season 7 of Netflix’s "Elite".

5. Young Miko

Puerto Rico’s newest up-and-coming reggaeton artist is Young Miko, who began releasing music in 2018 through SoundCloud. However, in 2022, Young Miko released her debut album Trap Kitty, which garnered a lot of attention and success. In 2023, in collaboration with Colombian artist Feid, their song "Classy 101" charted on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Young Miko’s first. Since then, Young Miko has continued to work with artists such as Karol G, Jowell & Randy, Brray, and more.

6. Tokischa

Dominican-born Tokischa is changing the Latin music scene with her songs and unapologetic confidence. Tokischa began releasing music in 2018; however, in 2021, with the release of the song "Linda", which she did in collaboration with Rosalía, she reached global success. This led her to create more music with artists like Madonna. Tokischa became very popular for her use of racy language in her music. However, Tokischa is unapologetic about her music, as she is very confident in her own sexuality.
