It’s finally that time of year when we can pack away our Winter jackets, start planning our Summer vacation, and get a fresh start with the annual Spring Clean! Some love it, some hate it – but surely everyone can use a tip or two to make it more fun!
Here are our best Spring Cleaning tips to make this year’s reset more fun and efficient!
Tip 1: A Fire Playlist
All good things start with music, and that’s a fact. To make your Spring Clean feel less like a chore and more like a party, here is a fun song recommendation for each chore:
For the intial cleanup: "Messy" by Lola Young
For sweeping the floors: "Murder on the Dancefloor" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor
For cleaning the bathroom: "Waterloo" by ABBA
For cleaning the kitchen: "Butter" by BTS
For doing your laundry: "Hot N Cold" by Katy Perry
For making your bed: "Made for Me" by Manu Long
For cleaning any glass surfaces: "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall
For cleaning your car (yes this is part of Spring Ceaning too!): "Drive" by by Train
Tip 2: A DIY All-Purpose Cleaner
Something not talked about enough is how expensive a Spring Clean can get. But don’t worry, because with 3 simple ingredients, you can make your own all-purpose cleaner. Plus, it’s eco-friendly! Pour one part water and one part vinegar into a spray bottle. Then mix in a lemon rind and a few rosemary springs, and that's it! Make sure to shake the bottle well and let it sit for a week so it can fully infuse, and ready is your all-purpose cleaner, perfect for any hard water stains, disinfecting countertops, cleaning glass surfaces, etc.!
Tip 3: Cleaning Your Cutting Boards
Don’t throw away those lemons just yet because we’re not letting anything go to waste! Cut your lemon in half and move it in small circular motions over your cutting board. This will help it get rid of any stains or smells. A little pro-tip is to add a sprinkle of salt or baking soda first – they have great natural anti-bacterial benefits.
Tip 4: Dust with Dryer Sheets
If you couldn’t tell by now, we love a multi-purpose hack, and this one is no different. After finishing your laundry, don’t throw away the dryer sheets, because they’re just about perfect for dusting. Their anti-static nature will help you pick up any dust off your TV, mirrors, furniture, and anywhere else where dust likes to hide. You’ll be amazed just how much a single sheet can pick up!
Tip 5: Turn Your Hangers Around
We all know the feeling – a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear? Well, no more – this Spring we’re only keeping the clothes we actually wear. But how do you decide what to get rid of? To start, turn all your hangers facing inwards so that the hook is looking away from you. Every time you wear a piece of clothing, you turn the hanger outwards so that the hook is facing you. After 3 months, you’ll see which clothes you actually wear, and which ones are just slowly rotting away in your closet. To all the clothes on hangers still facing inward – adios!
Tip 6: Donate Clothes
Now that we’ve sorted through our closets, the question is, what to do with all the clothes? We suggest giving back to the community and donating them. To make this process easier, we’ve compiled a list of the biggest donation centers in the US – so take a look which one is closest to you. A staple is Goodwill, which accepts anything from clothes and shoes to household items. Another great donation center is Salvation Army, which also takes a wide range of items. Dress for Success specializes in work attire for women, so if you have any suits, blouses, or blazers lying around – this is the place. Although these are great places to donate your clothes, don’t forget to check out local homeless shelters or church clothing drives in your area.
Happy Spring Cleaning!
