Horror movies are, of course, a staple of the Halloween Season. Sitting down with your family and friends on a chilly Fall night and picking a scary film to watch is one of the best Spooky Season activities. It’s already a couple weeks into October, and after watching your horror classics, you’re probably searching for your next film to watch.

With horror movies, it’s difficult to watch more than once. Since the genre is reliant on the suspense and tension of not knowing what will happen next, it can be hard to find horror movies that are worth seeing that you haven’t seen before. That’s why these new 2023 released films are worth a watch for your scary movie nights!

1. Renfield

With Nicolas Cage, Nicholas Hoult, and Awkwafina starring in it, Renfield received a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from the audience but only a 58% from the critics. Nonetheless, it's fantastic and definitely worth the watch. Although it isn’t really a true "horror" film in the traditional sense and is more of a dark comedy, it definitely brings on the classic Halloween feel with the immense gore and familiar characters. If you know the story of Dracula, you know that he has a familiar named Renfield who acts as his servant/assistant. In Renfield, the main focus is on Renfield and the horrible tasks he is forced to do by his master. His responsibility of bringing Dracula innocent victims to regain his strength is getting tiring after 90 years, and he has attended a support group for codependent relationships. The plot is about Renfield struggling to get away from his relationship with Dracula and gaining back his independence. Stream on Prime Video.

2. Insidious: The Red Door

This movie grossed over $188 million and received 69% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes. The film takes place 9 years after the possession of Josh Lambert. His family life has fallen apart and his relationship with his son Dalton seems to be on the brink of collapse. Dalton is now in college and seems to be hung up on the idea of astral projection and the red door that leads to "The Further". Meanwhile, Josh is haunted by the spirit of his deceased father who he has to discover the truth about. Rent on Prime Video, YouTube, and Apple TV.

After dealing with the loss of her mother and best friend, Brynn is back in her childhood home living a solitary life and finding pastimes to cope with the loss that she has endured. One night, she is awakened and finds that the door to her home has been broken into. Trying to escape from the intruder, she is forced to fight and attempt to flee. After the events of the first film, Sister Irene is located in Italy while Maurice works in France.
