About this video

Every Spooky Season, Netflix manages to drop a new gem or two that gets everyone buzzing. This year, that buzzworthy project is 'Night Teeth', a star-studded horror-thriller about a part-time chauffeur who gets caught up in the underground world of Los Angeles's hidden vampire network. Two of the enticing bloodsuckers who get to sink their teeth into the young driver are played by none other than Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry, and Young Hollywood catches up with both of them via Zoom to find out more about this terrifyingly cool project, including how they prepared to play women who have been walking the earth for several decades to hundreds of years. They also discuss the unique relationship and bond between their two characters, Blaire and Zoe, plus they tell us about their experience meeting each other in real life for the first time! 'Night Teeth' is now streaming on Netflix!

Okay, what's up Debbie? What's up Lucy? How's it going? You guys both look great too.

Debby Ryan

Thanks.

Young Hollywood

Okay, so Night Teeth dropping on Netflix. Are you guys excited?

Debby Ryan

Definitely.

Lucy Fry

Yeah. It'll be fun. Fun movie for the season.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Do you guys have any plans? Are you going to dress up for Halloween?

Debby Ryan

My husband has a show the night before, and we always figure it out last minute, and I feel like I'm on like a streak of being young men, um, in like a couple's costume. So I'll see how that goes.

Young Hollywood

Being young men.

Debby Ryan

Young men. I was Marty McFly and then I was Max Goof.

Young Hollywood

Nice.

Debby Ryan

We'll see what happens this year.

Lucy Fry

Yeah. Yeah. Halloween's really not big in Australia and I've been really enjoying getting into it in America and like embracing it and the dress ups and everything. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet this year, but I'm definitely going to do something. Like put in the effort.

Debby Ryan

Yeah. Oh yeah. Yes. My brother-in-law, his girlfriend's from Germany and she's it's her first American Halloween and Thanksgiving, so we're going to crank it out in Columbus if you want to come visit the treehouse.

Lucy Fry

Thanks. Love that invite.

Young Hollywood

Okay, so take yourselves out of the movie for like a hot second. You find out that this is your real life. Like last night on earth, what do you think that you guys would do or maybe call?

Debby Ryan

Oh. That's bleak.

Young Hollywood

One place you'd want to visit.

Debby Ryan

It's hard not to be sad when you're like, oh, last night. I'm like, I have so many people I want to say, "I love you" to. Yeah. I don't know. I would buy everyone I love like adaptable houses and vehicles. I I don't know, which I guess I would just Or just like get a big house somewhere and like say everyone like come, like this is the party where old here all day last night. Like, let's dance. I would dance. I would definitely dance. Yeah. Dance. Number one thing. I would first cry and then dance. And probably like cry while we're dancing.

Young Hollywood

I was going to say. And you guys, when you found out each of you got the part and that you guys were going to be cast mates, did you guys call each other? Text each other?

Lucy Fry

We hadn't met before. Yeah. Yeah. But I actually went to a premiere of a movie she was in years ago. And um, and then I familiarized myself with her work and then We would have met at the first time in New Orleans. Yeah. And so, I think I heard like, "The girl's here today." And I was like, "Is she here? Is she here?" And I was so excited to meet Debbie. Yeah. You know, that little like heart racing of like, we're going to be working together for so long. I really hope we're friends.

Debby Ryan

Yeah, yeah. This is going to be my partner.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. I'm so glad that you guys got to meet each other though, like right on set. Like that was it. Like you guys were, there you go. Like very close after that. Yeah. And you have an iconic line in there that it's like, you can't be alive for over 200 years and not be a little bit crazy. What was the concept of finding like, you know, you're going to be alive for 200 years, like getting in the role for that for each of you?

Lucy Fry

Um, it was super fun and with Adam, we talked a lot about like where Zoey would have come from and the like Second World War and being there and like picking off the bodies and the soldiers and like how she's such a predator and then like even being in America and like the wild west and how she would have gone on all these adventures and that this where you meet her at this point in the story working with the gangs in LA sort of running this vampire network that she's a little bit bored of her middle position and like Blair I think was the biggest gift in Zoey's life in the last like 30 years to have this friend who really gets her and I think Zoey's so um uplifted by and thrilled by Blair's humanity and that that's something that has enriched her life and now they're at the point where like, okay, I need more to own the city, to own LA and bring my best friend with me and so everything that's happening in this moment is really heightened. And also that thing of like being alive 200 years, she wants to just have so much fun and enjoy the moment because the moment goes on and on and feels she gets bored easily, so like a cat, she just like wants to play.

Debby Ryan

Yeah, and then where is it right now? Blair, um, you know, we sort of Blair was turned in the seventies. It actually we added it into the movie but it was sort of right? I don't know that it was in the original. Yeah, I think originally we were just talking about it. Yeah. Um, so it was I'm the sort of baby vampire of this group of people. And so, um, the hardening that, you know, having seen too much, having gotten bored that Zoey has, I experienced that secondhand. Um, but that sort of mania and boredom is not sort of my uh thing, you know, I'm I'm still sort of new. I'm as I was turned and then experienced my twenties in the eighties and and the nineties and then watched sort of technology come about and watch things change. Just the way that that affects your relationship with the future and I mean to her point the the this best friend this partnership relationship having been seen by Zoey and had the world painted for me and then pulling me into this sort of eternity together, um, it's so huge and then everything that comes with this really complicated codependent relationship that's predicated on the sort of power and this network of people that they're around and, um, things can start to add up and and yeah, it's the tension of it was is quite fun but the age, I think, was helpful. I think being 200 it's a little bit, you know, Lucy handled that beautifully. I think that I probably capped out at my age limit. That's why I think the whole point of Blair was to be the in humanity still. Yeah. She still has this her sort of heartbeat and that freshness yet and it hasn't been like taken out of her by too much life experience or being around these people too much. And I think that it also serves as a lesson of being able to look at Zoey and see like, this is what happens. This is what can happen to your your actual undead soul. If you are around too many sort of sociopathic people and you don't stay in touch with compassion and humanity. Yeah, for sure.

Young Hollywood

Well, congratulations on the film. Can't wait for the rest of you know, the world to see it on Netflix and hope you guys have a good rest of your day.

Debby Ryan

Lucy Fry
