Olympians to Make a Splash for a Good Cause!

Written by Amanda Baltazar. Published: May 29 2014

So, the next summer Olympics won’t be until 2016, but you don’t have to wait to see some of the very talented Olympic swimmers!

How, you may ask?

The USA Swimming Foundation, along with Phillips 66, presents the 6th Annual Make a Splash Tour! On this year’s tour, the USA Swimming Foundation’s Ambassadors will be in Los Angeles on starting today through Saturday! The ambassadors include Olympic Gold Medalists Nathan Adrian, Anthony Ervin, Janet Evans,Jessica Hardy, Jason Lezak, and swimming legend Rowdy Gaines! Two-time Olympian, Chloe Sutton, will also be at the event.

Make a Splash is a national initiative that focuses on teaching children water safety. The USA Swimming Foundation aims to raise awareness of the importance of swimming in a healthy lifestyle as well as a lifesaving skill. The Olympic swimmers will be discussing the importance of learning to swim, giving safety tips, and teaching the benefits of swimming. Throughout the tour, there will be Safety Information Sessions, games, and a meet-and-greet with the athletes!

At the Los Angeles site, there will be two events. On May 30 at Dr. Julian Nava Middle School, there will be a Water Safety Information Session and photo and autograph signing with the gold medalists.

On May 31, there will be a community water safety festival with the athletes at the Belmont Plaza Outdoor Pool and Beach in Long Beach. There will be games, storytelling, photo and autograph signings for the whole family.

Both USA Swimming Foundation and Phillps 66 hope to educate the whole community about the importance of learning to swim and to provide information on free and low-cost swimming lessons at local pools.
