A Lilith Fair-inspired festival, Daisy Chain Fields is a women-led event built to support and showcase both artists and women in the community. Following in Sarah McLachlan’s footsteps after founding and touring the all-women Lilith Fair in 1997, which defied the music industry’s lack of inclusion of female artists on big concert bills, Rodrigo set out to build a similar environment that would not only empower women on and off stage but also make a real impact in the lives of women in need of assistance.
Raising over 20 million dollars for women’s non-profit organizations, all of the net proceeds from the festival went towards different organizations that aim to provide services to women and girls, from reproductive to mental health, some even helping mothers cover childcare costs. From the jump, Daisy Chain Fields was already thought to be a very unifying and community-focused event/idea, one where everyone, especially young girls, could feel seen and welcome. Featuring local vendors and organizing for causes in the community, the festival provided a space for all of that to happen while fans got to see their favorite artists play.
The fully-stacked lineup who played the festival pro bono included Bikini Kill, Rachel Chinouriri, Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, and many more, plus special guest appearances from Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette, and she who started it all… Sarah McLachlan. With Olivia joining in with the forever-inspiring icons onstage, there was a true sense of sisterhood that felt like a real passing-of-the-torch. The addition of Rodrigo’s presence and voice in songs like "Landslide" with Stevie Nicks and "Angel" with Sarah McLachlan (dedicated to the late Dolly Parton) made for a collaboration that only added to the music rather than taking over, which felt incredibly intimate and collaborative.
Speaking of sisterhood and women not only supporting each other but artists as well, one of my favorite parts of the Daisy Chain Fields Festival’s setup was the fact that there was purposefully no overlapping between sets in the two different stages so every artist could get a full crowd. In typical festivals, there are usually multiple stages, therefore fans have to pick and choose which sets they want to make it to. Because of this, a lot of fans end up in the bigger "headlining" stage all day waiting for their favorite artist to play, leaving the other stages/artists with smaller crowds. However, with the system implemented in Rodrigo’s festival, it allowed fans the time to relocate and most likely see all of the artists without compromising not seeing another. From what we’ve seen, the atmosphere inside the festival was filled with joy and a strong sense of community. So much so, that people were practicing good concert etiquette (which is unheard of nowadays) and even letting people get closer to the stage in the audience for their favorite artist.

From Chappell Roan’s unbelievable vocals and incredible look referencing The Fifth Element to Alanis Morissette rocking out to "Ironic" alongside Rodrigo, Daisy Chain Fields was filled with so many great moments and performances that it is already being viewed as a highly successful endeavor, unlike any of its kind. Afterwards, Olivia posted a heartfelt message and thank you on her Instagram, highlighting how much joy she felt and how Daisy Chain Fields felt like "a collective hope that things can get better and a reminder of how much we really care about people at the end of the day." At the end of the festival, philanthropist Melinda French Gates pledged to match the festival’s $10 million in profits for charity, bringing their final donation up to a total of 20 million dollars.
This year being the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields Festival still had some quirks and kinks to figure out and improve. The biggest one being the waiting times for shuttle buses and transportation. However, the festival is already in the talks of possibly becoming a yearly, multi-day recurring event. With artists such as Mitski thanking Olivia for creating something so wonderful and wishing for its continuation, even saying she "hopes it’s a yearly thing because now we [her and the audience] can all say we were at the very first Daisy Chain Fields Festival!", I, for one, hope it will so I can attend it next year!
