How Quinn XCII's Album From Michigan with Love Was Therapeutic

We were talking about all the different names people have been calling you. Quinn 3,000,

Yeah, yeah. Quincy, Quincy. It's bad. It's it's People are finally getting onto it but I definitely get like the the bad pronunciations for sure.

Yeah. It's 92 because you were born in '92, right?

Yeah, yeah, that's easier to to explain, yeah. So, yeah. So, that's '92.

Yeah, so. Congratulations, Bonnaroo. You're on the lineup.

Yeah, yeah, thank you so much. I'm really excited. It's it's it's a festival of I I've never even been before. Um I I got a chance to play Lollapalooza this past year and I've been to that a few times. So that was really like surreal for me. But I've never been to Bonnaroo but I've heard about it tons. So I can't.

Don't you feel so cool because it's like so posh to go there and then you're performing.

Yeah, it's it's weird to be the like the guy like in like on the stage like commanding the audience versus like just the audience member. You know it's like it's So, I've been on both sides of the of the table now, I guess you say. So it's weird for sure but it's cool.

Are you Like, do you get nervous? You get those nerves still or you just kind of

Not really. It's more like I always describe it as like just like a roller coaster. Like if you like roller coasters and you're like going up, you're more like just like excited and anxious for that moment and then when you go down, you have a great time.

You thrive on that energy.

Exactly. So for me it's just more like I'm just like ready to do it and It's not like I'm nervous because I know it's going to be okay. Yeah. Yeah.

You have a really busy year. New album coming out and a worldwide tour.

Yeah, yeah. Which is insane.

Tell me about your new album.

Yeah. Um so it's called From Michigan with Love and we I really wanted to make this thing way more introspective as far as just like kind of battles with mental health I've gone through and just like my childhood and things that I went through in Michigan and how it's followed me here to Los Angeles and how I've kind of like grown up with it. So Yeah, it's way more it's way more uh personal than it than the first uh album and it's it's it just dives a little deeper into like who I am. Um and so yeah. And I'm getting married too. So it's like I'm battling all that stuff side that I want to bring up.

When's the big day?

My fiance would like me to mention it. Um, May 25th is the big day, yeah. So, I don't know who you are. Shout out.

Yeah. So. Okay. So that's you were born, yeah. You're welcome. Yeah. So. Uh yeah, yeah. So it's just like it it's all really exciting stuff but it's it's just like a lot to handle at once but there could be worse things happening. So.

The lyrics to your songs are are very meaningful, like Sad Still. I was going to say it reminded me of something, you know, dealing with depression and anxiety. So is that something that you just kind of dealt just growing up or do you feel like you are dealing with that more now because you're in the spotlight?

I think so now. I think now just because I'm trying to like prioritize things more often and and it's cool to actually like flesh it out via music because I know other people go through that stuff and if I can help other people with it, it's just as gratifying as like dealing with it on my own.

Yeah, it's almost like talking about it and writing a song about it makes you feel less anxious. you're like it's out there.

Totally. Yeah, I know you're the more you talk about it, I find the more comfortable I get with it and the easier I can like battle those like those crappy moments. Yeah.

You know how like musical prodigies are born with like this immediate attraction to music? Were you born with this just already this musical talent or was it something you discovered when you were older that hey, I'm pretty good at putting beats together and creating these music.

Right, right. I don't I don't know. I mean, like I always danced around to music with my parents played around the house and I was always fascinated by music and I always like knew I wanted to like entertain people. I'd put on like little plays and stuff for my family and at an early age, I was just like really into it. And then I didn't I didn't probably realize I could like write music until high school when I sort of fused my love for like storytelling and writing and like stuff and my love of music. I just meshed it together and Yeah, it

happened naturally. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it definitely wasn't good to begin with but like it got better. Yeah, exactly. It got better over time.

So, I didn't know you had a you have a twin brother?

Yeah, I have a twin, yeah, yeah.

Oh, what is so clever?

Yeah, yeah. And he always says he's dropping like a mixtape soon and he kinda yeah, it's fun. It's fun.

Does he tease you?

Yeah, yeah, he does. He he does. Like when I come home, he calls me Hollywood and like I like I've changed or something.

Yeah, when you go home, do you feel like you're kind of the local celebrity? Like people treat you and you're kind of like, come on, like I'm just coming back to my home town. And they're like, hey man.

Sometimes, yeah. It happens more often with strangers coming up to me like not my friends. My friends don't treat me any differently. They

Right.

If anything, they give me the most like slack, but like sometimes I'll be like going out to eat and it does happen where like people will say hi to me and stuff. But you know, I just don't think I've ever been the type of person to change really. I just kind of always carry my, you know, values and stuff with me wherever I go. So.

Of course. And what's your what's your brother do?

He's an insurance. So if anyone needs insurance, hit him up. Yeah, my brother. Yeah. So, no, he and that's like his little joke is like he he tells people, you know, if he needs He's like my brother's like a musician but if he needs insurance, let me know and so.

I love that. Yeah. We should get him on the show or something but. Such different parts of like the, you know, the creative mind, more analytical mind.

Totally. He's way more Exactly, he's way more analytical, like better with numbers and I'm like left of center like left brain like creative, writing music, all that stuff. Yeah. So we're definitely we're super similar um with everything else, but as far as like our brains and like what we're good at, totally different.

That's crazy.

Yeah, yeah. But it's cool though cuz I got to see him do things that are different than what I do and vice versa. So. Yeah. Yeah.
