Horror studio Blumhouse has been filling audiences with fear since it was created by Jason Blum in Y2K, the mind behind major box office hits like M3GAN and the Paranormal Activity franchise.

Last year in 2023, the infamous studio announced their venture into video games with Blumhouse Games. President Zach Woodsaid then that “Our upcoming titles represent standout storytelling, inventive play styles, and fresh approaches to scary stories, created by game developers who are deeply passionate about horror.” Blumhouse Games follows closely with the mission of the film studio, focusing on indie game makers and titles that carry small budget attachments.

In a recent interview with IGN, creative lead of Blumhouse Games Louise Blain said that the company wants to widen the audience of horror games to gamers everywhere, and that their drive to tell stories with indie studios and game designers helps achieve this end. The low budgets don’t allow a reliance on fancy practical effects, and allows games to “open up to those different types of fear.”

At Summer Games Fest 2024, Blumhouse finally expanded on last year’s launch with an initial slate of 6 new games coming to players soon. In what Jason Blum calls “the new home for horror”, a set of diverse and dynamic games will be sure to terrify brave gamers in the coming months and years.

The first game to be released is In The Spotlight, a story of two teens who become enveloped in a chaotic story of possession and ghostly discovery at their high school after finding a Ouija board. The game comes as a collaboration with Cozy Game Pals and is an homage to the ‘90s horror aesthetic. No release date is announced, but the game has been confirmed to have a release later this year in late 2024.

Other games announced range from pixelated supernatural serial killer thrillers to meta-overload crime investigations, including a project from Infinity Pool writer-director Brandon Cronenberg tentatively titled Project C. The other games are titled Crisol: Theater of Idols, Grave Seasons, SLEEP AWAKE, and The Simulation. All of these titles are still in development, but you can get a first look at the trailer for the new slate below.

No one knows too many details about all of these games just yet, but they are rumored to all be wildly different and original takes on the horror game canon, each having their own distinct aesthetic and attached collaborating studio. Blumhouse Games is an exciting new venture into the horror world that is elevating indie voices to tell their own unique stories in the ways they want to do it and giving a platform to horror lovers everywhere. We’re on the edge of our seats for more updates on these eerie games, and you should be too!
