James Franco has bought up a piece of Hollywood history after spending $775,000 on a Los Angeles-area home built by moviemaker D.W. Griffith in the 1920s.
The actor has purchased the Silver Lake compound from Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant.
The property was reportedly built by The Birth of a Nation director and previous owners have included fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg's daughter Tatiana.
