Everything We Know So Far About Yorgos Lanthimos's New Film 'Kinds of Kindness'!
Following a Best Picture Oscar nomination for his film Poor Things, director Yorgos Lanthimos is already promoting his next project. Here’s everything we know so far about his upcoming film Kinds of Kindness!
The movie’s screenplay is the product of Lathimos teaming up again with his longtime writing partner, Efthimis Filippou. The duo have worked together on previous projects, including The Lobster (2015), The Killing of A Sacred Deer (2017), and Nimic (2019). Described by Searchlight as a “triptych fable”, the film is an anthology following a set of three stories. From the credits, it appears that the actors will stack their roles within the film, appearing in every story as a new character. The stories, as Searchlight reveals, include: a man trying to take back control of his life; a police officer trying to reunite with his missing (now found) wife who isn’t who she was before; and a woman seeking out her self-given title of spiritual leader.
The film commenced shooting in New Orleans in October of 2022 and has been in stages of post-production since before the teaser trailer released a new theatrical date for the film. The project has shown to be a reunion of all sorts, as Lanthimos works once again with production company Element Pictures, the production house behind his 2015 and 2017 films.
Set to come out this Summer, Lanthimos directs a huge star-studded cast of Academy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actors including Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, Margaret Qualley, and Hunter Schafer. Kinds of Kindness marks Stone’s fourth collaboration with Lathimos, the pair having previously joined forces on Beat,The Favourite, and Poor Things.
In the teaser trailer released last month, shots of these characters' insanities are splintered between each other -- a chaotic ensemble of images that showcase the acting chops of this cast.
This month, posters for the film were shared by members of the cast and production team designed with images of the actors wearing masks of their own faces.
The posts shared by the official Kinds of Kindness Instagram account were published with three hearts of three different colors, mirroring the triptych story that the film is going to present.
The R-rated film is set to release in theaters on June 21, 2024, after a screening at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on today (May 17).
