Everything We Know So Far About Netflix's New 'Pride and Prejudice' Adaptation!

I’m a firm believer that every generation deserves to grow up with an epic love tale. And what better story than that of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy?
Ah, yes, Pride and Prejudice remains one of the greatest romance novels of all time. Though the book was written over 200 years ago by Jane Austen, the story hasn’t lost its relevance and is still beloved by many today – myself included. So, you can imagine my joy when Netflix announced that it is adapting the literature classic?!
The streaming giant is adapting the book into a 6-part mini-series. It will follow the sharp-witted Elizabeth Bennet as she navigates societal expectations and, of course, fights her feelings for the pompous Mr. Darcy. All the book lovers will be thrilled to hear that the adaptation will stay faithful to the novel’s plot, while also adding a few fresh insights.
Making the story leap off the pages are Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Colman – a powerhouse trio of actors that are no strangers to a good period piece. Probably best known for her portrayal of a young Princess Diana in "The Crown", Corrin is set to play the lead Elizabeth Bennet. With acting credits that span from Lady Chatterley's Lover and Nosferatu to Deadpool & Wolverine and "A Murder at the End of the World", Corrin has proven that they have the versatility that is required to play the unconventional rom-com lead.
By their side will be Jack Lowden, who we have seen in the Christopher Nolan movie Dunkirk and alongside Margot Robbie in Mary Queen of Scots. He will play Mr. Darcy and we cannot wait to see what he’ll bring to the character. Joining Corrin and Lowden is none other than Olivia Colman, an Oscar and Emmy Award-winning actress known for roles in such projects as The Favourite, "The Crown", and "Fleabag". She will be playing Mrs. Bennet, Elizabeth’s overbearing mother whose main goal is to marry her five daughters off to wealthy suitors.
Penning the adaptation is the novelist and screenwriter Dolly Alderton, who has written several best-sellers such as Good Material and Everything I Know About Love, which she adapted into a rom-com series for BBC. Now, she will bring the literary classic into shape for Netflix – a dream come true for the author. “The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm," says Alderton. "In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship, and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice.”
With the script set in place, and a cast ready to shoot, it now all comes down to the director. Euros Lyn ("Heartstopper", "Doctor Who") will guide this team through production and bring Jane Austen’s world to life, with all its giggles, drama, and romance. Production will start this year in the UK, with Corrin, Alderton, and Lyn as executive producers alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter of Lookout Point.
