I cannot be the only one that just finished binge-watching "You" all over again and is now left with that slump you get when you’ve finished a great show. I need my next fix! There is something oddly satisfying about stepping into the mind of a charming psychopath that leaves me wanting more. And, well, these shows definitely deliver that! Here are 6 shows to watch if you also loved "You"!
1. "Barry"
If you’re into watching Joe trying to juggle his double life, you’ll be hooked on "Barry". The show is a black comedy that follows Barry Berkman (Bill Hader), a former Marine and professional hitman, who discovers a passion for acting, which makes him question everything. As he tries to pursue his acting dream in L.A., his past catches up with him, and, like Joe, Barry just cannot stop murdering people. Will he be able to hide his double life from his peers and his girlfriend Sally, or will everything come crashing down and destroy his new life? Only one way to find out – watch "Barry" now on HBO Max!
2. "Dexter"
Before Joe Goldberg there was Dexter Morgan – a charming, loveable, and intelligent forensic technician. Oh, and serial killer! By day, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) works with the Miami PD to solve crimes – by night, he lives out his murderous double life committing them. Like Joe, Dexter has a strict moral code when it comes to his victims and he only attacks criminals and “bad people”. Oh, and the best part is that Dexter also has that inner monologue narration which we all love Joe for! The best part is, Dexter's saga continues with the prequel series "Dexter: Original Sin", streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime, and sequel "Dexter: Resurrection, premiering July 11!
3. "Hannibal"
If "You" didn’t creep you out quite enough, then "Hannibal" definitely will. The show is a psychological horror thriller that focuses on the complex relationship between Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), a forensic psychiatrist, and an FBI agent, Will Graham (Hugh Dancy). The twist? Lecter is a cannibalistic killer, while Graham is tormented by his capacity to empathize with serial killers. But that’s not all there is to "Hannibal"! The real suspense comes from their interesting relationship which straddles the line between friendship and lethal rivalry. So, what are you waiting for? "Hannibal" is now available to stream on Prime Video, AMC+, and Pluto TV.
4. "The Fall"
I think we were all first shocked by Joe’s capability of posing like a loving boyfriend and attentive worker while secretly murdering people. Well, Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) from "The Fall" is just like that too. To the outside world, Paul looks like a caring husband and father, but behind closed doors he becomes a gruesome killer. It is not until detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) travels over Northern Ireland to investigate a series of murders that Paul Spector’s secret is at risk of being exposed. For a tense psychological drama with a strong female lead, watch "The Fall" now on Prime Video, Peacock, AMC+, Pluto TV, Tubi, and Britbox.
5. "Sharp Objects"
Based on the book by Gillian Flynn, the series follows the crime reporter Camille Preaker (Amy Adams) who returns to her hometown to solve the murder of two young girls. But the real threat isn’t just the people around her – it’s Camille’s inner demons as she struggles to battle her addiction to alcohol. "Sharp Objects" is a true Southern Gothic adrenaline ride with a big plot twist that you’ll never see coming…. Watch it now on HBO Max.
6. "The Sinner"
If "You" had you hooked because of its twisted psychology and shocking confessions, then "The Sinner" is your next obsession. It follows Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) who investigates shocking crimes committed by seemingly ordinary people. Ambrose uses obscure tactics and has an oddly deep empathy for his cases, driven by his dark past that leads him to form dangerously close bonds with his suspects. It’s twisted, it’s gripping, and it’s available to watch on Netflix now.
Happy watching!
