As Summer trudges on, it's time to discover new TV shows that will keep us entertained this season. If you're tired of the same old trending shows, we've got a list of unique, captivating, and binge-worthy television series waiting to be explored on streaming platforms. Get ready for a TV marathon like no other!

 

1. "Derry Girls" (Netflix)

Louisa Harland, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, and Dylan Llewellyn form a dynamic ensemble, delivering laughter in every scene of this series which takes place during The Troubles, an ongoing political conflict in Ireland, during the 1990s. Each season, with its 6 episodes, is rife with humor, with Lisa McGee's incredible ability to find the comedic and relatable moments during this turbulant time. Whether it’s the Irish humor or the ridiculous situations the group finds themselves in, you’ll finish the show with a newfound love for the free town of Derry.

 

 

 

2. "Anne with an E" (Netflix)

An incredible adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, "Anne with an E" follows the incredible Amybeth McNulty as Anne Shirley, an orphan who is mistakenly sent to live with middle-aged siblings Murilla and Matthew Cuthbert, played by Geraldine James and R.H. Thomson, who planned to adopt a boy to work on their farm. After spending a day with Anne, though, the Cuthberts decide to adopt her, and she begins her new life in Avonlea. The show beautifully portrays Anne's emotional journey, making it a must-watch for any fan of the original book and newbies alike.

 

 

 

3. "Dear White People" (Netflix)

Sam, a junior at a PWI, hosts her radio show on the Winchester University radio station, “Dear White People”, where she confronts the racism and microaggressions she and her fellow Black peers experience at her Ivy League school. This whitty and progressive series addresses common issues black students face at universities while still being engaging and funny. This Netflix original will surprise you and make you wonder, “How did I miss this?!”

 

 

 

4. "The Carrie Diaries" (The CW)

If you’re a fan of the iconic "Sex and the City", then "The Carrie Diaries" is a must-watch. This prequel follows AnnaSophia Robb as a 15-year-old Carrie Bradshaw, living in Connecticut with her dad and younger sister after her mother's death. When Carrie takes an internship at a Manhattan law firm, she gets a taste of the life she has always wanted. In this 2010 drama set in the '80s, we see Carrie before her column and Big. Despite only having two seasons, this show is worth the watch, especially for Carrie fans. 

 

 

 

5. "Rise" (VOD/Digital)

"Rise" features "How I Met Your Mother"’s Josh Radner as the English teacher at Stanton High School in a small town in Pennsylvania. In an attempt to revive the theater program, Mr. Lou Mazzuchelli decides to make the spring musical Spring Awakening, a rock musical follows teenagers in 19th-century Germany as they begin discovering their sexuality. Very reminiscent of "Glee", the cast of the musical discover things about themselves through the musical.
