The 79th Annual Venice Film Festival kicked off last Wednesday with an impressive guest list attending the festival’s first week of premieres. Some of the most notable films to premiere this week have including Noah Baumbach’s White Noise, Todd Field’s Tár, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Bardo, Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All, and Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. In addition to the films stirring up Oscar buzz due to impressive storytelling and performances, the stars of the films also impressed on the red carpet. Here’s our fashion roundup of the best looks to come out of Week 1 of the Venice Film Festival!

1. Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith kicked off the festival in a dazzling Gucci gown to attend the premiere of her film White Noise. The gown features a structured silhouette on top, with a flowy, sheer skirt. Turner-Smith accessorized with beautiful and bold emerald green gloves and jewels.

2. Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett was the definition of glamorous in a Schiaparelli Haute Couture corset and trouser look to attend the premiere of her film Tár. The set featured velvet trousers and a beautiful velvet corset with hand-painted flowers detailing the top, creating a stunning bouquet illusion.

3. Taylor Russell

Attending the premiere of her film Bones and All, Taylor Russell wore a stunning, bright green Balenciaga Haute Couture gown on the red carpet from the Fall 2022 Haute Couture collection. It features a voluminous long skirt in the front with a bow detail on the top. However, the back of the dress was short and showed off the sleek black tights and heels Russell was rocking. The look was accessorized with long white gloves, elevating it even more.

4. Timothée Chalamet

Continuing with the stars of Bones and All, Timothée Chalamet was the talk of the night in this red-hot Haider Ackerman look, which was custom made for Chalamet and featured a sleek, backless halter top and red tailored pants and boots to complete the fit. This look marks one of Chalamet’s most daring to date and we can’t get enough!

5. Chloë Sevigny

Known as a longtime fashion icon and certified “it girl”, it’s no surprise Chloë Sevigny looked incredibly chic and elegant in her black Gucci 2023 Resort Collection gown to attend the premiere of Bones and All, in which she stars in alongside Russell and Chalamet. The gown features beautiful draped sleeves and cut-out detailing. To accessorize, Sevigny dazzled in a statement Bvlgari snake necklace, earrings, and bracelet.

6. Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson looked stunning in a fierce red Elie Saab Fall 2022 Couture dress to attend the premiere of Bardo. The bold look featured wrapped satin detailing from head to toe, with a beautifully structured hood and flowing cape. Thompson accessorized with matching red tights and heels.

7. Emma Chamberlain

Internet Icon, Emma Chamberlain, dazzled in a vintage Roberto Cavalli gown to attend the premiere of Bones and All. The stunning all-white dress featured a sleek plunge neckline and sequined detailing down the center of the dress. As a Cartier brand ambassador, it’s only fitting that Chamberlain accessorized the look with gorgeous Cartier jewelry.

8. Sadie Sink

Sadie Sink looked absolutely radiant in a gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown as she attended the premiere of her upcoming film The Whale. The gown is from McQueen’s spring 2023 pre-collection and featured gorgeous light blue tulle and a stunning crystal-embroidered bodice. Sink’s stylist Molly Dickson revealed on Instagram that the team only had 10 days before the festival to fit Sink, but it’s safe to say they did a perfect job—she shined on the red carpet.

9. Florence Pugh

Last but certainly not least, Florence Pugh (eventually) showed up to the premiere of her film Don't Worry Darling where she proved that she is still The Moment in this absolutely stunning Valentino Haute Couture dress fitted out with tons of tulle and sparkle. She looked so good that even her co-stars Chris Pine and Nick Kroll had to stop and snap a few pics!

We’re expecting even more stunning looks to line the red carpet throughout Week 2 of the festival, so make sure to check back in with us next week for the second edition of the VFF fashion round-up!
