Top 5 Craziest Moments From The Premiere of FX’s "The Beauty"!

As the saying goes, "beauty is pain", and FX’s "The Beauty" takes that literally! The Ryan Murphy and Matthew Hodgson series had its whopping 3-episode premiere on January 21. Based on the comic book series of the same name, the show follows FBI agents Cooper Madsen (Evan Peters) and Jordan Bennett (Rebecca Hall) as they investigate the mysterious deaths of supermodels from around the world. In true Ryan Murphy fashion, the show features plenty of over-the-top and satirical situations, extreme body horror, and loads of dark humor to highlight society’s ugly obsession with perfection. Here are the top 5 craziest moments from the show’s premiere! (Spoiler warning, obviously!)
1. Ruby Rossdale Exploding
Yes, you read that right. In the opening scene of the series, supermodel Ruby Rossdale (Bella Hadid) is walking the runway when she suddenly begins to feel extremely thirsty. She stops at nothing to quench her thirst, breaking people’s necks, chaotically weaving a motorcycle in and out of traffic, drinking out of a toilet, and even getting hit by a car along the way. You could call the scene a slow burn, since it follows Ruby as her body’s literally burning from the inside. Her body keeps burning up until it eventually can’t take the heat anymore and she just… explodes.
2. Brittany Gets Thrown Out of a Window
We think the third episode is where the show’s campiness truly starts to shine, particularly in this opening scene. Manny (Ben Platt) and Brittany (Meghan Trainor) are taking their lunch break when an extremely thirsty Harper Rose (Amelia Gray) joins them. Similar to Ruby, Harper Rose brutally slaps Manny out of his seat, flips tables, and aggressively throws her co-workers out of the way on her hunt for more water. The final act of her rampage involves her strangling Brittany before throwing her out the window of a New York City skyscraper. Just like Ruby, Harper Rose ultimately explodes, kissing her Accessories Editor gig goodbye.
3. The Words “High-Maintenance Girlie” Coming Out of The Assassin’s Mouth
The Assassin (Anthony Ramos) says and does some crazy things throughout the show’s premiere. However, the line that left us the most shocked would have to be when he said that people always accuse him of being, and we quote, "a high-maintenance girlie." This line left us with many questions that are still left unanswered, like: Did multiple people actually call him a "high-maintenance girlie"? And if not, is he chronically online enough to have found out about the term himself? Also, does The Assassin frequently try out new slang on his victims, since they’ll be too dead to mock him afterwards if it doesn’t go well? We’ll probably never know, but we eagerly anticipate hearing what crazy words will come out of The Assassin’s mouth next!
4. "Yacht Rock" Being Mentioned More Than Once
Now don’t get us wrong, we love a good yacht rock moment. It’s just that, when Byron Forst (Ashton Kutcher) mentions it for the first time, it seems like a one-off joke, so we were surprised when the writers brought it up again for one of the show’s most absurd yet tense moments so far. Following his instructions from Byron, The Assassin captures Jeremy (Jeremy Pope), who has been infected by The Beauty, and tries to get him to join his sing-along to Christopher Cross’s yacht rock classic, "Sailing". Fun, right? Yeah, except for the fact that, if The Assassin’s hands didn’t have to be on the wheel, he would quite literally be holding Jeremy at gunpoint.
5. Franny Forst’s Fabulous Fit
Okay, we realize that it’s bold to call a fashion moment one of the “craziest” considering that multiple people in the show literally explode, but hear us out! For a show whose color palette mainly consists of yellows, browns, deep reds, and sterile whites, we were shocked and excited to see Franny Forst (Isabella Rossellini) enter wearing something that was a bright, happy pink! And it wasn’t just the outfit’s color that was exciting, but its shape, too. Nothing could have prepared us for the dramatic reveal of her cage skirt, big fur jacket, and sparkling statement jewelry.
For more crazy moments, you can catch new episodes of “The Beauty” on FX and Hulu every Wednesday at 9pm!
