Young Hollywood

Anna, hello. Your smile when I saw you right there really brightened up my day. How are you doing?

Anna Kendrick

Ah, I feel amazing. Um, I'm feeling, oh, I won't punch your mic. I'm feeling excited. I'm a little nervous. I'm excited for people to see it.

Young Hollywood

Hello, Danielle, welcome to the red carpet. You've been working on this movie for a long time. Now it's finally coming out. Just tell me a little bit about the movie.

Guest

Oh, man. The movie is kind of like a mouse and cat chase, where the mouse doesn't know they're being chased. Second guest: Yeah, well, I'm just excited that we're premiering it at South By Southwest so that we can actually talk about it now for the first time because it's been kind of like shrouded in secrecy. I play a character called Reza. He's a shopkeeper. And um, he's not to be trusted. And he loves wearing shorts. And he tucks in his shirts into his shorts. And I think that, you know, if I've ever done that, I felt like it was the wrong thing to do. You know, it's about this guy who's this kind of um, prophet, preacher. Um, and he's really charismatic. Um, he doesn't have that many followers at this point in his life. But, um, he kind of catches the attention of the FBI and I'm playing an FBI agent.

Young Hollywood

You're the you're the bad guy.

Anna Kendrick

I, that's the thing. It's there's a lot of bad guys and there's degrees of bad guys. And we're definitely like coming down and that was something that Chris Morris and I talked about a lot was coming down on the side of, you know, we're not saying that my character is like one of the good guys just because she's the least bad of the bad guys and and that kind of stuff. So, it was like fun and challenging to you know, to play somebody who's like morally questionable at the best of times.

Young Hollywood

You guys had a lot of funny people on set, yourself included. Was there any funny moments off set?

Anna Kendrick

Oh, man. We have a good time. Well, there was this whole thing with a chicken.

Young Hollywood

Chicken.

Anna Kendrick

Yeah, because we got training with the animals. So, I was supposed to like hold a chicken in the thing. Oh my god. We ran out of time and the chicken didn't want to act right. So, I was supposed to hold the chicken in

Young Hollywood

You choked the you choked the chicken.

Anna Kendrick

I didn't choke the chicken. That is not the story here. I'm okay. Um, James Adomian, he um, plays a cop and he's a stand-up comedian. And he like me and the other um, actors tended to get into this like rhythm, you know, and it started to feel like we're doing all this little play and we'd laugh every time James Adomian said something because he was just like record scratch, like in his own rhythm, like doing his own thing. And we just had to like, kind of go along for the ride and it was so much fun watching him work.

Young Hollywood

We are in Austin. And the slogan is Keep Austin Weird.

Anna Kendrick

Yes. Keep Austin Weird. Keep it weird.

Young Hollywood

So, we're going to play a little game. Okay. It's going to be your weirdest. Okay. All right. So, your weirdest dream.

Anna Kendrick

Oh my god. Um, Jumanji. I see in my old neighborhood all these animals chasing me. I hate it. And or my teeth falling out. Those are the two things.

Young Hollywood

Your weirdest dream?

Guest

I had it the other night actually. I just lost my dog last week. And I dreamt I was in my old house I lived in as a child. And there was a dog there but it wasn't, it was it was like a Simba kind of like a a lion cub. And it was in the house. Second guest: My weirdest dream is being in a a submarine and a volcano not a volcano, a rhino running through the submarine while I'm in my

Young Hollywood

In the water and then a rhino coming in? Second guest: Yeah, I'm like driving the submarine and I hear something behind me, right? Like I just hear all this noise, this like commotion.

Young Hollywood

A submarine's in water though. Second guest: I know, I know. You said my weirdest dream.

Young Hollywood

Okay. That is very weird. You just said that. All right. Uh, weirdest food you've ever had?

Anna Kendrick

Um, I don't really try to mess with too many weird foods. But, I did go to Japan and there was like worms, really mini like white worms with black teeth, black eyes.

Young Hollywood

Did you eat it?

Anna Kendrick

No. No.

Young Hollywood

You just looked at it.

Anna Kendrick

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was enough.

Guest

Uh, tobacco ice cream.

Young Hollywood

Tobacco ice cream. Yeah, that is very weird.

Guest

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Young Hollywood

It felt strong?

Guest

It was in I had it in Guatemala. It was very strange. And it wasn't bad, it tasted it tastes like you would expect, like tobacco. Second guest: This food, man. God. Weird food. I've watched a lot of people eating weird food like uh weirdest that you've seen. Like kind of snakey, sluggy type stuff, right?

Young Hollywood

Snails? Second guest: Snails, I've had snails but I didn't think they were weird, they kind of tasted good. Caviar, tried that, you know. So,

Young Hollywood

Last one, weirdest fashion trend that you've ever participated in.

Anna Kendrick

Weirdest fashion trend.

Guest

You know how people used to wear like Fubu and all that stuff. Second guest: Yeah, that was me. Fubu.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, like the oversized Mitchell and Ness like I mean Fubu, what's wrong with Fubu though? Second guest: No, there's nothing wrong with it. But you know like the oversized like Mitchell and Ness look that people had in the 90s. I guess that's the weirdest.

Young Hollywood

So that's not bad. Second guest: No, it's not bad at all. You you we were with the times.

Young Hollywood

Exactly. Second guest: But now when you look back on it, it don't age as well. You feel me?

Young Hollywood

I feel you.

Anna Kendrick

Booty shorts.

Young Hollywood

Booty shorts. That's a weird one.

Anna Kendrick

That's not weird, but it's too much.

Young Hollywood

Too much.

Anna Kendrick

Yeah, when I was a little teenager, just doing the most.

Young Hollywood

I bet you look good in it.

Anna Kendrick

I did though.

Young Hollywood

You're killing it, you're killing it.

Anna Kendrick

That I've ever worn. Yeah, you've participated in. I wore leather trousers on my 18th birthday. And um

Young Hollywood

How did that night go?

Anna Kendrick

It's warm. Very warm. Very sweaty. Uh, didn't wear those again. Last time. I still have a pair of leather boots that I can only get on if I put plastic bags over my feet before I put them in the boot. Um

Young Hollywood

And you ripped the bag and then

Anna Kendrick

And then rip the bag and then get on with your evening.
