The Most Memorable Pop Culture Moments From Super Bowl LVIII!

Written by Ashley Parham and Katie Marzullo. Published: February 13 2024

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially won Super Bowl LVIII! Unfortunately for the dads, Brads, and Chads, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs”, and the San Francisco 49ers didn't have Tayvoodoo on their side. Besides the game itself, each year the Super Bowl contributes to pop culture via the iconic movie trailers, elaborate commercials, and the Halftime Show performance. Here's our recap of the new reveals and best celebrity moments!

MOVIE TRAILERS

Deadpool & Wolverine

This is the trailer that superhero fans had been waiting for. The third installation of the Deadpool series is already living up to the hype. This trailer is full of the signature humor and charm that Ryan Reynolds brings to the character. The movie appears to finally be bridging the gap between the MCU and the X-Men franchise. The trailer introduces recent Emmy and Golden Globe winner Matthew Macfadyen as an agent of the Time Variance Agency, which you may remember of being the primary location for the Marvel series "Loki". It also finally gives us a first look into Deadpool and Wolverine’s interactions. This movie is sure to be action-packed and hilarious. Deadpool & Wolverine will be in theaters on July 26.

The Fall Guy

This trailer promises action, comedy, and mystery. If that’s not enough to convince you, there’s also a shirtless Ryan Gosling and a relatable scene where he cries while listening to Taylor Swift’s "All Too Well". This movie has something for everyone! Gosling has had a great career, and he’s had a particularly impressive last few years of film. Pairing him with the legendary, beloved Emily Blunt is a duo that is sure to succeed. The Fall Guy will be out on May 3.

Wicked: Part One

Musical fans! It is your time to shine! The trailer for Wicked: Part One has finally dropped. The movie is based on the long-running musical of the same name. Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba Thropp, and she dazzles in this trailer. Erivo starred in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple from 2015 to 2017 and starred as Harriet Tubman in the 2019 film Harriet, so we know we're in good hands here. Ariana Grande stars as Glinda, and we know Grande has the vocal chops to hold her own in a musical, so seeing her in this trailer has strengthened our excitement. Wicked: Part One will be in theaters November 27.

Twisters

Universal dropped the trailer for Twisters, their much-anticipated sequel to the now-iconic 1996 movie Twister. The movie, which doesn't feature any of the original movie's actors, stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, feels slightly more like a reboot than an actual sequel, with the two main characters attempting to launch the same tornado measurement technology as the originals. So, it's a bit confusing but still looks like every bit of a nail-biter! Twisters hit theatres on July 19.

COMMERCIALS

Cetaphil led the charge with heartwarming advertising this year. The skincare brand’s commercial features a father and daughter. The father is seen wanting to watch football with his daughter, but she does not express any interest. The two bond over Taylor Swift’s appearances at Chiefs games, and the father even wears friendship bracelets by the end of the commercial. A lot of people have expressed finally being able to share football games as a common interest with their loved ones this season, so the advertisement hit everyone right in the feels. Cetaphil definitely earned the Swiftie stamp of approval.

Speaking of musical icons, Beyoncé was featured in a commercial for Verizon where she announced new music. The commercial features her joking about breaking the Internet and attempting to break Verizon. The commercial features her doing increasingly dramatic things to garner attention, such as dressing up as BarBey and running for “Beyoncé of the United States”. However, the real breaking news was the announcement of her new album Renaissance (Act II). The follow-up to her 2023 album is coming on March 29, and two songs are already out! Go stream “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” now!

FanDuel

Gambling website FanDuel came up with a unique idea of airing a LIVE commercial event which they promoted ahead of time where they would have retired NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski attempt to kick a (relatively easy) field goal, and people could bet on the outcome. When the big moment came, Gronk... missed. Whomp-whomp!

HALFTIME

Usher is a well-established artist, and this performance generated a lot of buzz. He did not disappoint. He brought his hits and lots of collaborators to the stage. He performed “If I Ain’t Got You” and “My Boo” with powerhouse Alicia Keys, “OMG” with will.i.am, and “Yeah” with Lil Jon and Ludacris. Usher put on quite the show. He danced throughout and even slid across the stage on roller skates! This Halftime Show will definitely be one for the books.

TAYLOR SWIFT

Of course we can’t forget Taylor Swift! The Super Bowl marked Swift’s 13th appearance at an NFL game. She has been very supportive of her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and his team made sure not to let her down. For this game, she wore an all-black fit which she accessoried with a red Chiefs jacket and a necklace featuring Kelce’s number 87. Her NFL game outfits have been super stylish, and this one was too.

Swift arrived at the game with her brother, her parents, Ashley Avignone, Ice Spice, and Blake Lively. They were in the same suite with Kelce’s brother Jason, sister-in-law, and parents. It was a full family affair, and Swift looked like she was having a great time! She cheered, jumped, and chugged a beer while on the Jumbotron.

The game itself was tense! The Chiefs were down at Halftime, though notably, in all of their Super Bowl appearances with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they have done the same only to come back and win. The second half of the game was more or less neck-in-neck, and the game became only the second in Super Bowl history to go to overtime! The Chiefs pulled through in the end, but we did get some reactions from Swift when the game wasn’t going in their direction.

Thankfully, things turned around for Kansas City, and she and Kelce were able to share a sweet moment on the field after the Chiefs’ overtime victory.

Super Bowl LVIII was certainly one to remember!
