Written by Elin Hilderbrand and released in June of 2018, the mystery novel The Perfect Couple is coming to Netflix this Summer. One of Hilderbrand's 28 novels, the story has been turned into a 6-episode television series directed by Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Emmy Award winner Susanne Bier.

The show will follow the Garrison family as their son, Benji (Billy Howle) is set to marry Amelia (Eve Hewson) at his family’s seaside estate in Nantucket. The thriller starts with a tragedy: everyone in the Winbury wedding party is suddenly a suspect after a body is found in Nantucket Harbor just moments before the big day. The groom's affluent parents (Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber) are throwing an extravagant ceremony at their seaside mansion, and this event is sure to be a memorable occasion. The chief of police learns more about weddings than he anticipated, as he speaks with the groom, the bride, the groom's well-known mystery author mother, as well as a member of his own family. The star-packed show will also feature Dakota Fanning as the groom's sister-in-law, Meghann Fahy as the bride's best friend, and Jack Reynor as the groom's brother.

In 2019, Fox Entertainment began developing a version of Hilderbrand’s novel, revealing in December that Jenna Lamia would be reworking the novel for the series. Principal photography took place in Massachusetts from April to June 2023, with Chatham, Eastward Point, Harwich, and the surrounding areas of Cape Cod serving as filming sites.

“Because the majority of 'The Perfect Couple’ was filmed on location in Chatham, the production will have an authentic Cape and island feel. Hollywood legend Fred North took overhead footage in his helicopter, and he later messaged me and said it was one of the most beautiful places he’s ever shot,” Hilderbrand said in an interview with Boston.com.

According to the wedding invitation on the TUDUM website, the beachfront compound has “a select number of cottages inside the gates of Summerland for close friends and family in the wedding party.” The invitation also lists lots of activities to do on the island: “Explore Sconset Beach, visit the Brant Point Lighthouse, stroll through Bartlett’s farm stand (on the Winbury family tab!), or bribe Tag to take you out on the water in one of our custom boats. This town is your oyster.”

Be sure to toss this book in your beach bag to read before watching the nuptials on Netflix on September 5th!
