The MCU has built its reputation on post-credit scenes. They're often just as exciting as the movie itself, teasing new heroes, shocking villains, or the next big crossover. When they pay off, they're incredible -- think Nick Fury recruiting the Avengers or Thanos finally stepping into the spotlight.
Over the years, Marvel has introduced characters and storylines that seemed destined to become major parts of the MCU only for them to seemingly disappear. Whether because of delays, changing plans, or Marvel shifting its focus, these are 5 post-credit scenes that still feel unfinished.
Starfox & Pip the Troll (Eternals)
When Eternals ended, we were treated to one of Marvel's biggest surprise cameos. Harry Styles made his MCU debut as Starfox, the brother of Thanos, alongside the hilarious Pip the Troll. The pair arrive aboard their ship and offer to help rescue the captured Eternals, instantly setting up what looked like the next chapter of the story.
The problem? That chapter never came. Because Eternals flopped with critics and the box office.
With no Eternals 2 officially in development, and we highly doubt we will see the Eternals again, Starfox has become one of the strangest loose ends in the MCU. Introducing the brother of one of Marvel's greatest villains should have been a huge moment, but years later we've heard almost nothing about him. Considering how much attention his debut received, it's surprising Marvel has left the character sitting on the sidelines.
Hercules (Thor: Love and Thunder)
The mid-credit scene of Thor: Love and Thunder introduced Brett Goldstein as Hercules, one of Thor's greatest comic book rivals.
After Thor embarrasses Zeus, the king of the gods decides enough is enough and sends Hercules after the God of Thunder. It was the perfect setup for another mythological adventure. Thor versus Hercules practically writes itself, with both characters being powerful, arrogant warriors who love a good fight. Instead... nothing. What seemed like an obvious sequel hook has remained untouched.
Clea (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness)
If there was one post-credits scene that screamed "to be continued", it was the ending of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Charlize Theron made her MCU debut as Clea, opening a portal to the Dark Dimension and telling Doctor Strange that they had caused an Incursion -- a catastrophic collision between universes. Doctor Strange confidently jumps into the portal, and the movie ends just like that,
However, years have passed without any continuation. Maybe, just maybe, she shows in Avengers: Doomsday but we won't hold our breath...
Mr. Gryphon ("Loki" Season 2)
Well, we think we know why this didn't go anywhere... Although it came from a Disney+ series rather than a movie, the ending of "Loki" Season 2 quietly referenced one of Kang's most interesting comic book identities: Mr. Gryphon. For comic readers, this was a fascinating tease. Mr. Gryphon is a Kang variant who operates as a billionaire businessman while secretly pursuing his own multiversal ambitions. At the time, it looked like another piece of Marvel's larger Kang storyline. However we are never seeing Kang again, so now that is out the window. What a shame...
Jake Lockley ("Moon Knight")
First off, we are disappointed that we most likely won't get a "Moon Knight" Season 2. Throughout the series, Marc Spector and Steven Grant believed they were the only personalities sharing their body. The post credit scene revealed there was a third personality all along: Jake Lockley. Unlike Marc and Steven, Jake is completely loyal to Khonshu and has no problem carrying out brutal assassinations. The reveal completely changed how viewers looked at the entire series and opened the door for darker stories featuring "Moon Knight".
Unfortunately, with no second season announced and no appearances elsewhere in the MCU, Jake Lockley has become another fascinating idea that's still waiting for its moment. We do, however, have a feeling that Oscar Isaac might show up in Avengers: Secret Wars...
Marvel has always been playing the long game, so it's possible every one of these scenes eventually gets its payoff. But after years of waiting, it's becoming harder to believe some of these storylines are still part of the plan.
Some teases simply arrived at the wrong time, while others were casualties of Marvel changing direction behind the scenes. We will see if any of these come into the play in the next two Avengers movies...
