11 Show-Stopping Looks From The 2025 Met Gala!

Written by Franziska Schildecker. Published: May 06 2025

Ah, it is that time of year again – the biggest night in fashion has arrived. The first Monday of May means that celebrities and stars from all over the world walk the steps of the Met Museum in New York City for the annual Met Gala. Underdressing is a foreign concept here. The theme this year was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" with the dress code being "Tailored For You", which emphasizes menswear and suiting.

So, let’s take a look at some of this year’s best looks and any other highlights that you might have missed!

A Breathtaking Start

As one of the first stars to arrive at the blue carpet (with daisies on it!), Teyana Taylor set the bar VERY high. The singer-songwriter and actress stepped out in a breathtaking oxblood-red and grey suit which Taylor co-designed with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter and Marc Jacobs. The cherry on top? Stacked wallet chains, a red cane, and a durag that turns into a train of pleated fabric which majestically falls behind her. As one of the hosts for the Vogue livestream, Taylor simply killed it.

A Glorious Return

A comeback has never looked better than Diana Ross’s return to the Met Gala for the first time in 20 years! And boy, was the wait worth it! Ross stepped out in a white crystal-embellished gown and a jaw-dropping 18-foot shawl that shimmered with crystals and beads. Even at 81, the singer knows how to make a fashion statement as we watched her train draping over the entire Met Gala stairs – a look she achieved with help of the Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie. And they tied it all together perfectly with her signature voluminous curls and a stunning feather-trimmed hat!

A Small but Mighty Announcement

While Rihanna may have been fashionably late, she still managed to steal the show by debuting her new baby bump. Yes, it is true – Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are about to become parents for a third time! Rihanna showed off her bump in a belly-hugging, gray bustier with a floor-length skirt, cropped jacket, and blazer embellishment in the back tied to look like a bow, all designed by Marc Jacobs. And once again, Rihanna has proved that nothing will stop her from being the fashion icon she is – congratulations!

Let’s Hear it For the Men

Long gone are the days when men wore simple black suits to the Met Gala (or any black-tie event, let's be honest). But this year, they have really outdone themselves. Co-chairs Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton proved that men’s fashion is anything but boring when done right. Domingo arrived in a vibrant cobalt blue cloak that was decorated with a large diamond and crystal necklace by Boucheron. But his look didn’t stop there! On the carpet, Domingo took off his robe to reveal a custom-made Valentino look inspired by the zoot suits of the 1940s.

His fellow co-chair Hamilton could definitely keep up as he showed off a gorgeous ivory suit by Wales Bonner. His key to success? Brooches! Lewis Hamilton truly shined on the carpet as he was decorated head-to-toe with gold, diamond, and pearl brooches. A simple yet elegant look that is making us dig out any brooches we might have at home!

A Touching Story

There is no event that honors fashion quite like the Met, which is why Gigi Hadid’s look was simply perfect. The Miu Miu gown was a dazzling gold dress, with dripping jewels and countless gems. It was an homage to Zelda Wynn Valdes, a black fashion designer from the late-1940s who revolutionized tailoring for women. A great dress with an even greater backstory!

A Measurement of Time

The Met Gala is known for its big gowns and unique designs, so it’s safe to say that comfort is rather rare here. But we think Jenna Ortega’s dress by Balmain may take the crown. It is crafted from hundreds of metallic rulers that have been sculpted around Ortega’s body. It is the perfect dress for the theme "Tailored to You" as it honors the craftmanship and technique of tailoring. And in what a unique way!

An Optical Illusion

Staying on the topic of unique and creative, we have to talk about Demi Moore’s optical illusion dress. Made by Thom Browne, the dress takes on the same silhouette as a classic men’s tie. Moore’s upper body acts as the knot, while an arch over her head resembles the sling around the neck, making it look like Demi is wearing a supersized men’s tie! And to top it off, the dress was bedazzled with over 1.4 million beads! Talk about a memorable Met look!

A Playful Accessory

And the award for the best accessory goes to … André 3000! The rapper and songwriter showed up on the carpet carrying a Grand Piano strapped to his back! The piano was so huge that André had to enter through the kitchen of the Met Museum – now that’s what we call dedication. But truly wow! André, you have definitely knocked us off our feet.

A Glorious Debut

Making her Met Gala debut yesterday was rapper Doechii, and one thing is for certain – she did not disappoint. Dressed by Louis Vuitton, Doechii came wearing a monogrammed LV blazer paired with checkered wide shorts, a big red bow, and a cigar in her hand. With this look, Doechii not only celebrates menswear and Black dandyism but also proves that shorts absolutely belong on the red carpet – especially on women!

Breathtaking Classic Beauty

BLACKPINK’s Jennie turned heads yesterday when she stepped onto the carpet in a custom Chanel tuxedo Gown. The sharp hemlines mixed with the playful draping create the perfect mix of mature, playful, and sexy. The cherry on top is her sleek black and white hat that reminds one of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. A true homage to fashion!
