He has since insisted he's pleased he changed his mind, saying, "For better or worse, no matter what happens with the film, whether it's a good film or not, it was the right thing to do and I'm glad I did it."

But the actor still has some reservations because he hates the risk of being stuck playing the same role for years with no way out.

Evans, 30, tells Total Film magazine, "If these movies do well, I could be playing this guy until I'm 40. What if I want to quit acting? What if I want to move to India? You can't - you have a contract. It's terrifying!

"Fame seems fun for a second. Try it for a month. It's not fun. There's no 'off' switch. I've managed to live the last 10 years of my life making movies and flying under the radar. Nobody bothers me. This might change that.

"If it does poorly, it's a whole world of other problems!"
