Reese Witherspoon's efforts to teach her daughter to be proud of her body backfired when the teenager baulked at the idea of seeing her mother naked in a new film.
The actress felt sure her daughter Ava would appreciate new movie Wild, in which the Oscar winner plays an adventurer who takes off on a marathon hike following a life catastrophe, and she hoped the youngster would approve of a scene in which she bares all as character Cheryl Strayed.
Witherspoon says, "Ava's 15 and there are parts in the film that I had to explain to her. I told her, 'I'm naked in the movie...' and she was like, 'Mom, that's so weird!'
"I said, 'I had to be brave Ava, and I couldn't just tell the parts I was comfortable with, because Cheryl was brave to tell her whole story, so I had to tell even the parts that I was scared to do'.
"She's like, 'I know but if this was (Witherspoon's mother) Grandma Betty...' I said, 'You're right, that would be really, really weird!' But she's very proud of me."
