Rachel Zegler & Kit Connor To Make Their Broadway Debuts in 'Romeo + Juliet'!

Mere weeks after it was announced that Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, would be taking on one of Shakespeare’s most iconic characters alongside Francesca Amewudah-Rivers in an upcoming London production of Romeo & Juliet, across the Pond the timeless tale of tragic lovers is getting the musical treatment on Broadway!

Oscar-nominated actress Rachel Zegler, fresh from playing a modern-day Juliet in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story in 2021, will finally go right to the source – sort of – making her Broadway this Fall.

Few details have been released other than the fact that it will be a musical take on the centuries-old classic with music by Grammy winner Jack Antonoff (also making his Broadway debut) and features the tagline “The Youth Are F*cked”. Of note, the title of this production is stylized as Romeo + Juliet, much like Baz Luhrmann’s now-iconic 1996 modern-day reimagining starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. Will this production be borrowing some aspects of that film, like a modern-day urban setting with the original Shakespearean dialogue? Or will this just be another version of West Side Story?

Playing Romeo to Zegler’s Juliet will be Kit Connor, who you all know and swooned over as Nick in Netflix’s “Heartstopper”. This will also be his Broadway debut.

No dates or venue have been announced yet for this production but tickets will go on sale next month, so we will probably know then. Meanwhile, if you’re in the U.K and want to catch Tom Holland’s version (which is also reportedly a different take than the standard version) at the Duke of York Theatre on the West End from May until August… well, you’re out of luck because it’s already sold out!
