Jake Gyllenhaal was forced to turn down a role in 1992 ice hockey movie The Mighty Ducks because his parents wouldn't let him make a film while he was studying.

The Jarhead star had made his movie debut in City Slickers the year before and his folks decided it was time for him to put his acting career on hold and concentrate on school work.

He says, "I was about to apply to junior high school and it was The Mighty Ducks, and I remember them saying no... I remember crying on the kitchen counter, telling them that I hated them. The Mighty Ducks is a good movie."
