So you're a local. Doesn't don't the locals call it town lake?

Well, no, since uh Lady Bird Johnson, the first lady passed away a few years ago, uh they immediately changed the name to Lady Bird Lake. Because she had um did all the hiking bike trails around and wildflowers. She was the most beloved lady in our state, so.

Right. What is what is the longhorn signal? Is it that? Is that what it is?

No, you gotta get that thumb in. You gotta get the thumb inside. You're doing that. You're doing Yeah, that's the rock and roll and then that shot. No, get the thumb in. Get the thumb in. And then that and a little bit of a little bit of little hook. A little hook. It's not straight out, that's like satanic, you know, you gotta a little bit of a little bit.

Yeah, that's pretty good. I already have a crooked pinky so I I don't even have to work at it. It works, you know, just a slight little.

So speaking of rock, I know you're both into music and South by Southwest is all about fresh finds, fresh new talent. Yes. We we talked to Mika before who I know is on your your label. Who are some of your fresh new finds? whether it be music, whether it be actors.

Fresh new finds. K. Epperson. K. Epperson. As an actress. Yes. Probably unknown before this and she's in Bernie and she's outstanding.

It was widely assumed that Bernie was accompanying her places.

Oh yeah. Bernie took her everywhere. They went to Russia, Acapulco, New York City, they went to Europe, always first class. He bought Jet Skis, nine cars.

So tell me about the first time you guys met.

1992, about 19 Almost 20 years. Yeah, coming up on 20.

You were a film student.

1992. Film student here at UT.

I was making a movie.

You were making a movie called Days Confused. I met Don Phillipson and a bar, right? At the Omni.

Right there, High it. Oh, the High.

Wow. Right there. So what was it? You saw him on the audition. Was he as smooth and charming?

Yeah, for the part I was looking for, Matthew was almost he he was too kind of clean.

Oh yeah. I came it was for me, I thought it was a it was a job interview, right? So I shaved, I tucked my shirt in. You know, I had my had my had my button down iron and everything.

You look kind of like a clean cut frat boy.

You're looking pretty clean cut today.

Well, but I come in for the part of a of Burson who's not a real clean cut guy.

No. No one could ever say Matthew got this part because of his looks. His looks almost kept him from getting the part.

So how is this character in Bernie different? Danny Buck. Danny Buck. I love the name.

Well, we really had to go talk about we kept going in the mess up like little plumpers in the mouth. Man's a little older.

Really? That's a good trick.

Man's a little older. Little gut. little gut wrapped around. And you got to wear the cowboy hats and the cowboy boots. Got a wig. Little gray hair wig.

Are you wearing a wig?

Yeah. Big glasses. Big glasses. Yeah. We found that all on the day really when we were doing the testing. Number eight. Danny Buck's coming to get you first. Not one of you dope pushers is going to get away. Not one.
