ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Jack Antonoff

Written by Julie Fenske. Published: June 21 2021

It’s no secret that the music industry has embraced and indulged in every project that Jack Antonoff has produced in recent years, and so have we! A singer/songwriter in his own right as the frontman of the indie-pop band Bleachers and drummer/guitarist for Fun, his star truly came on the rise since working with megastar Taylor Swift, but his sound and expertise have helped to create some of the most critically-acclaimed albums of the 2010s, like Lorde’s Melodrama. What we love about Jack’s production is his willingness to play to the strengths of each artist he works with, bolstering the themes of each album and creating sounds that will make each lyric hit that much harder. Upon the return of our Lorde and savior and the announcement that Jack is working with Clairo on her upcoming sophomore album, we thought we’d highlist Jack's hottest collabs!

1. Taylor Swift

Way back in 2014, 1989 hit the shelves, and the world was never the same! Jack partnered with Taylor for her first fully pop album and has traveled along with her to new creative heights in her albums Reputation (2017), Lover (2019), Folklore (2020), and Evermore (2020). He also partnered with her on the rerecording of her album Fearless (Taylor’s Version)! We can’t wait to see what they do next.

2. Lorde

After her smash hit debut album Pure Heroine (2013), Lorde teamed up with Jack to produce her much-loved follow-up album Melodrama (2017), crafting not only Lorde’s sound but also aiding her in becoming the musical voice of a generation. Their latest collab “Solar Power” teases great things for Lorde’s third album of the same name.

3. St. Vincent

Perhaps one of the more underrated collaborations Jack has worked on is with St. Vincent, who has curated her career with fantastic albums and an original sound. He has helped her usher in a new era of music with her albums Masseduction (2017) and Daddy’s Home (2021).

3. Lana Del Ray

Lana Del Rey was already established as an alternative it-girl by the time she got in the studio with Jack, but their collaborations elevated Lana’s dreamy sound into full effervesence. Their first collaboration was Norman F*cking Rockwell (2019) with Chemtrails Over the Country Club (2021) following.

4. The Chicks

In a stroke of genius, The Chicks (fka The Dixie Chicks) chose to collaborate with Jack on their comeback album, 2020’s Gaslighter, which showed the group returning to their smart country lyrics with an irresistible sound.

With Jack’s track record for creating amazing albums with extremely talented artists, we can’t wait to see everything he does next, and we’re looking forward to his upcoming collaborations with Clairo and Lorde!
