Hey guys, we are hanging out with Tricky Stewart. The mastermind behind so many different songs. You've worked with so many incredible artists. You know, you've worked with Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber, but right now we're here talking about the Color Wow song that you produced. Wow. So amazing. Wake up in the mirror. We are who we choose to be. Wow. That's all I have to say.
Yes. That's the word we had. That's the word of the of the day and of the of the year.
Here with the brains behind Color Wow, Gail Federici. How are you?
I'm doing good.
How's it feel to be back on set and to be putting the creative aspects into Color Wow now?
This is what I love the most by far is the creative side, doing the photo sessions, doing the TV commercials. Between the John Frieda business and the Color Wow business, we spent five years in the music industry. And worked really closely with Tricky Stewart, and he's such a good friend, he's so talented. We worked with him for years, and he wrote the song for the commercial. Before it's too late.
The first place I started on this particular project was I knew I needed to get someone lyrically that was going to be able to nail it. So, the first person I brought in is a guy K Major that I've worked with out of Atlanta. Uh, I went to him specifically because I the stuff that I was doing with him was really, really cool. So, I felt like the second part was figuring out the emotion of the commercial, the tempo, how to make something that had enough energy so that the shots could be quick and impactful. And those were the two main concerns when Gail and I first started talking about the project, and it just went from there.
He is like the Quincy of today. I think Tricky is a genius. He can do any style of music. And this song was tricky because I said, "You're going to kill me." I said, "But we need you to do a song with the word wow in it." That was challenging in the sense that it could get cheesy really fast when you do a song called Wow. And I was thinking, "Wow" can be so cheesy, you know, and too sugar poppy. But we came up with something that I think kind of bridges the gap between, you know, like commercial and vibrant and young. He sent me the song, I played it, and I was in shock. To me, it's really cool, really fun, very empowering. And he's got the word "wow" in there in a cool way. I said, "You know, and if anybody can make that word "wow" cool, it would be Tricky." And it's, I think it's great. And fun. It's really fun.
I think everyone seems to be pretty happy with what we came out with.
As the music industry has changed and evolved, how has your style changed and evolved as well?
It's interesting, you know, my favorite producers of all time, probably Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. And with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, they did so much stuff that I felt was futuristic as part of my influences that I've always made dance music, I've always made slow songs, I've always made mid tempos. But the the one resonating factor between those things is the melody. The production is going to change, you know, one day it could be EDM, the next day it could be something else. But the song and the melody is what the people are are really chased down. And so for me, my evolution of that process has been really to just stay with the song. And the best song always wins.
Well, Tricky's a genius in his own right, but you are you've completely revolutionized hair and the whole entire industry. What is it like now with Color Wow to look back on on your career and the evolution of your work?
You know, I'm like not the person that ever looks back, and I'm never in the present, which I should be, I know. I'm always in the future. So, I don't really think about it except that it seems like we're using the same formula, we're constantly trying to be a company that solves problems. And there were really no products out there that really worked hard for that type of hair because the texture is really difficult, it gets fragile. So we thought, you know what, we really need to think about this and work on a line that can really make a difference and make that hair swingy and back to being really healthy. The formulas in Color Wow are night and day from things that are out there. It's like very different technology. So it was fun problem solving. That's what we do.
I'm glad that you guys are having fun today. I'm very excited to see the commercial and see the end product. So. Thank you for being here with us.
