What's up?
Nothing much. How are you?
Doing good. Thanks for having me. Are you in uh Florida or LA?
I'm in LA.
Okay. How long, how long have you been, were you in Florida for any of quarantine or no?
Yeah, for like five months of it. I went home to my parents' house for a long time. I thought I was only gonna be there for like two weeks and then I ended up staying for like half the year.
That's like everybody. It's like It's like Oh, I was just gonna go home for like a day. It's like, okay.
I was there for five months, so. Yeah. It was a good time though. I was I was with my family, so I can't complain.
Definitely. And how's it being back in LA? How do you feel?
Um it's cool. I mean, everything is closed and you know, but I'm here and I just moved into a new house, so it's been keeping me busy.
Yeah, for sure. And have you do you try to go to the beach or anything or no?
Yeah, we go every weekend.
Yeah. Okay. Yeah, definitely still taste of home cuz you got the beach. Beach is both places. Well, we're excited to talk to you today about all things music and what's going on with you. So you have an EP dropping soon?
Yeah. It's really an album. It's a full-length album and I'm gonna be dropping a single every um month, once a month. And it's gonna kinda just like lead into an album next year.
Yeah. And your new single Ross and Rachel.
Yeah.
We've heard it. We love it. What was the inspo behind that song?
Um I I always just liked making music that sounds like the soundtrack of like a movie or a TV show, like nostalgic 80s type songs. And we were in the studio one day and I was just like, why don't we uh, why don't we write a song about one of the greatest TV shows and greatest TV show relationships of all time? It makes everybody feel like nostalgic, so yeah.
How many times have you watched the show, Friends?
Oh, so many times. I feel like I've just watched all like every episode like five times but all like completely out of order. Like I've never actually watched the show in order.
I don't think anybody has.
I know, I think it's to the point where like people are just using it as background noise too, just because they know they like the show and it's on. Yeah. It's like The Office. You just kinda put it on in the background for some good vibes.
What's your favorite lyric from the song? Do you have one?
Um I remember when we wrote the pre-chorus which is um, I lived right I lived right down the hall like a fly on the wall, knew you better than you yourself. I thought that was pretty cool. Just like the play on words and that the rhyming was pretty cool.
Is the is that based on true events that have happened to you? Is that like mainly all of your songs or you just get inspired from everything?
Well, it's funny cuz I had a song um two years ago called Wait for You. And the whole point of the song was, I'll wait for you no matter how long it takes. And um, I didn't even really realize it when I was writing the song but it's kinda like a Wait for You part two because it's like thank God I waited. That's the chorus of Ross and Rachel. And so it's kinda like, yeah, I was in a a point of my life where you know, I was kinda waiting for somebody to be in the right mindset to be in a relationship. And and then it's kinda like looking back and saying, thank God I waited, it all paid off. Like it was worth the wait, so. Um yeah, I was definitely in that head space when I wrote the song.
What advice because you, you're in, we see you and your girlfriend on TikTok and everywhere, so you guys are adorable. So we wanna ask you and a lot of your songs obviously play into like romance and emotions and stuff. What advice would you have for people that might be like trying to date from home?
Tryna date from home. Um and then not with each other you mean?
Yeah. Or just people that are trying to meet people in like you it's hard. You can't, you know.
It's hard. Um I mean, you gotta use the apps. You gotta use social media. You gotta use, you know, whatever dating apps you feel comfortable using. I mean, I met my girlfriend through Instagram DM. I DM'd her like three years ago. And I think you.
You DM'd her?
I DM'd her. She had no idea who I was. Told her to come to a show, so you know, that's the that's the life that we, that's the the world we live in. You can't be ashamed of it. So a lot of people I feel like think that they're too good for dating apps or you know, to reach out to somebody through Instagram, but that's the world we live in, so I would say don't be don't be too scared or, you know, embarrassed to do something like that. Especially when we're not going out and we can't meet people in in person these days.
So you DM'd her three years ago?
Yeah.
How long you been together?
Uh just about a year. But um, we've pretty much just like the first two years was kind of on and off and just kinda talking for a month, not talking for a month. Just we didn't really know what we wanted and um we were kinda in different head spaces and so another, you know, tip that I always tell people, especially my sister cuz she like to give her a lot of dating advice is like, if it doesn't seem at the very beginning like it's, you know, you know, perfect, just keep going and try to like see it through because, you know.
For sure.
You know, things evolve, things, you know, things change, so.
Did she go to the show that you told her to come to?
She didn't. No. She had a boyfriend at the time.
Oh, gotcha, gotcha. Oh my god.
But that's what that's what I'm saying. Like timing is everything. So don't give up on somebody just because, you know, if they don't wanna FaceTime with you or or you know, join a Zoom call during quarantine, don't give up on them. Maybe they're just like, maybe they just do things differently than you. So, you know.
For sure, for sure. Okay, then we're gonna play a quick game with you if you're down.
Cool. Let's do it.
It's like or dislike and it kinda goes along with what's happening in the world right now, so I'll read off kinda things that are relevant and then you'll say if you like or dislike it.
Okay, cool.
Okay, so like or dislike home workouts?
Uh dislike them, but I've been doing them every day. have to.
Um only communicating with people through Zoom, like or dislike?
Only communicating through Zoom? No, dislike.
Yeah, it's getting old. It's getting real old. Trying to unlock your phone with a mask on. Like or dislike?
Oh, the worst. Uh dislike. I just took off my pass code actually yesterday because I was so sick of it. You just can't.
I know a lot of people are like, I just do the number now. It's like, I don't even have a face like, I just don't even use the face, I just type it in.
I just did it with my pass code. I was sick of it. Yeah.
Like or dislike IG Reels?
I don't really get it yet, but I didn't get Instagram stories either when they first came out, and so Reels will probably be huge next year. I don't know.
Um the amount of times people ask you, so how's it going? So, how are you?
It sucks. Um yeah. I feel like no one actually, no one's no one's doing great these days. Everyone's just maintaining, so. Same as yesterday because I'm still in the house, so.
Um like or dislike the fact that summer's almost over?
That's insane actually. I dislike that majorly. Wow. I don't even know where the time is gone.
Yeah. All of 2020 pretty much just is a blur. Uh like or dislike online shopping?
Um I don't really like shopping at all to be honest.
Really?
No. Especially when I can't see if it fits me or anything like that, so.
True, true. So we're gonna go with dislike for that one.
Dislike.
Uh like or dislike um the work from home lifestyle? Basically, do you want like life to kinda go back to normal like working wise?
I don't mind it just because I already work from home. Um I have a studio here in my bedroom and my room. Um and we just that's how I've been working for the past few years, so I'm used to it.
And then like or dislike the meme content that's coming about with Covid?
Ah you gotta love memes. Memes are memes are great. The internet's a great place.
Oh my god, they kill me. The TikToks. The things that people can come up with, like it's the funniest stuff. I swear. Well, thank you so much for talking to us today.
Of course. Thank you for having me.
