I'm here with Ariana Grande. Is that how you say it?
Yeah, Grande. Whatever you want. Whatever. Grande Grande.
And she plays Cat in Victoria. So tell me a little bit about Cat.
Okay, well, Cat is, um, she's fun loving, she's free spirited, and she's kind of adorable. And, um, she's kind of blinded by her own happiness. Like, she thinks everyone's her friend and she's very bubbly. But, um, you know, if something catches her off guard or upsets her, she'll totally like get totally mad at you in like one second. Like, her mood swings are so drastic and so quick. You can like get whiplash. It's, it's amazing.
All right. Now, when I read about all the different characters, they said that Cat's a little eccentric.
True. Yeah, she's kind of, you know, like flighty a little bit. I mean, I wouldn't say, I mean, I love her, though. She's absolutely adorable. She is kind of eccentric, though. Very actually.
Well, that's the other thing. I was watching all those photos going on. You did the photoshoot today. And I'm watching all the photos of the four of you girls, Brunette, Brunette, Brunette. Pink, which I love. So, is this for the character? Was this before?
Um, this is for the character. This was what Dan Schneider envisioned for my character. And once you see the show, it totally makes sense. I don't think that Cat would have any other hair color. Like, if you try to picture it any other way, you'd be like, no. That doesn't actually make sense.
Okay, then when you first looked at yourself after you dyed it, what did you think? Was it like, whoa?
Well, I mean, I've always wanted to do something different with my hair. But, um, you know, I love it. I mean, as soon as I saw it, I was just like, I'm going to like this. I think it's awesome. Although the first night I had it back in the pilot, I, um, I got up in the middle of the night and I went to the bathroom and I turned on the lights and I guess I had forgotten or something, because I screamed at the top of my lungs and I fell into my bathtub and I was like, oh my God.
That's that. That's what I'm saying. I'm sure when you first did that, it was like, whoa.
That's I mean, I loved it but I was like, it took me a second to like realize, like, I was like, oh my God, it's me. I love it, though.
Okay, now, every girl that I've talked to has told me about the show and what it's about, kind of in their words. And I'm going to say ask you to do the same thing.
Okay, well, Victorious is a new comedy on Nickelodeon. It's about the new girl at our school, Hollywood Arts, and she's, um, she's trying to find herself creatively, as well as, you know, make friends and become comfortable in her surroundings. In her very colorful and artistic surroundings.
And now, I think it was Victoria that we were talking to that started singing, because she was like, you know when Ariana is around, you will hear her in the parking lot a mile away. singing. And I have to say that being here today, I've heard you singing a lot. And you have a great voice. Now, tell me a little bit about your music career and, uh, and how you got into music and everything.
Well, um, music means a lot to me. I originally came from Broadway. I was in 13 the Musical, written by Jason Robert Brown. And, um, that was just an experience of a lifetime. It was just, it was so incredible. And I'm so happy because now a bunch of high schools around the world are doing the production of 13. So, that's really awesome. So, woo. 13 lives on. And, um, you know, I mean, music is so important to me. I love singing.
What is it about music that's so important?
Well, I mean, it's kind of a way of expressing yourself. You know, if you're upset, I mean, you're not just going to go like scream and like throw a tantrum. You could put it into a song, you know? Into like an intense rock song. And then everyone will listen to be like, this is cool. And then, you know, it's like or if you're really happy, you're not just going to be like, well, maybe I would. I would run around and go, you know. Like, you can put it into a song and then just like, you know, share it with the world.
So, would you say this is like a perfect fit for you on the show?
Um, I think I would. I mean, I love my role, Cat. She's so incredible. I love playing her and it's a musical show. So, absolutely.
I haven't asked any of the other girls about the photoshoot today. Tell me a little bit about what this photoshoot was for.
Well, I mean, this photoshoot was for publicity, for like teen magazines and stuff like that around the world. And, um, it's, um, it was really fun. We had an amazing stylist, an amazing hair and makeup people.
And, um, you all look gorgeous, by the way.
Thank you. And, um, we had awesome music to listen to and, um, right now I'm rocking the, uh, the doll-like rocker chic look. And, um, you know, it's really fun.
In all the shots that we've seen today, you guys are wearing the coolest clothes. Is this what it's like on set as well?
Yes. Absolutely. That's in hand. We have awesome wardrobe on our show. I love it.
You really, I mean, between the singing, the clothes, the fun, it seems like you guys all have a blast.
This outfit actually is very Cat. I mean, Cat always wears like short cute little dresses with, um, some fun heels. So, I mean, I feel very Cat-esque right now.
And what about you? What are we going to be seeing you in an average day wearing? In an average day? Yeah.
Um, probably some really cute leggings with, um, wedges and a t-shirt and a cardigan or something cute like that.
Very cool. Okay, now, tell me about accessories, by the way. Oh, what are your favorite accessories?
Bows. Anything that looks like a bow or can be mistaken for a bow. I'm like obsessed. In love.
Why do you think? Where when did that start?
I don't know. Even when I was a little girl, I always used to wear headbands that had big bows on them. And my mom was like, when are you going to get over this like Minnie Mouse thing, Ariana? And I was just like, never. And I never did. And I love bows.
All right, and you never grew out of bows. That's perfectly cool. Maybe it's a Madonna thing.
Maybe, maybe I was watching music videos with my mom and something. I don't know. Who knows, but it's awesome.
What's one thing people wouldn't know about you?
One thing people wouldn't know about me is I try to write a song every night. Even if it's like a silly little ditty, I try to do it. Instead of like writing in a diary, I try to write like a little song every night.
That's awesome. How who can say that? Like that is so cool to be able to say.
Well, I mean, sometimes they're only like a couple seconds long. You know.
What are your favorite styles of songs to write? Like, what's your genre?
Um, I love electronic music. I love pop and, um, I love R&B and dance and I love everything really, but like if when I write that's like kind of a big concoction of what I write with.
Okay, so give me a handful of the people you're actually listening to today.
Um, okay, who I'm listening to today. Uh, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Jason Derulo, Vampire Weekend and Imogen Heap. Always Imogen Heap.
I love her, too. Favorite food?
Uh, strawberries.
Strawberries?
The strawberry. The strawberry. The strawberry is my favorite. As in one beautiful big strawberry is my favorite.
All right. I can deal with that. Um, favorite color?
Um, sparkly colors.
Okay. Favorite place to shop?
Oh my gosh. Um, Saks Fifth Avenue in New York.
Okay. And, uh, yeah, that's a nice one. I like that, too. She knows her stuff. Favorite place to visit if you could go anywhere?
Hmm. I'd say South Africa because I've been and I would love to go again. I went as a part of Broadway in South Africa, which is a charity organization where we go and we sing to the kids and we teach them about music and stuff. And it's really fun and I love it. Hi, I'm Ariana Grande from Victorious. Thanks for visiting our photoshoot and talk to you soon, young Hollywood.
