Welcome to Young Hollywood.com.
Hey Young Hollywood, it's Michelle Hummel and I'm here with multi-talented songwriter, musician, and actress Kate Voegele.
Now, we're here at Borders Book, you're going to be performing for your fans, which I think is just amazing that you're here.
What do you love about these intimate performances?
Being at, you know, a bookstore, it's like you're sitting in someone's living room and I love that because I'm a super informal person.
So, I like to be that way with my fans or my friends or anybody.
So, it's going to be great.
Young Hollywood spoke with you back when things were kind of just getting rolling.
It's been an amazing ride in the best ways since I talked to you guys last, you know, I released my first record and I went on One Tree Hill and it was amazing and got all this awareness.
And what I loved is one of the words that you used when you were talking about what that experience had been for you so far was unpredictable.
But in a good way.
I set goals, but I also don't want to like just try and plan everything out because this is such an unpredictable business, but in the best way.
But like, if you'd asked me six months ago, what do you think you'll be doing?
I would never been like, probably filming, you know, a part on One Tree Hill and, you know, and and sitting here with Young Hollywood.
And so, do you feel that your ride has still been unpredictable?
Like you never know what's going to come up each day?
Definitely.
I think that this new record is called A Fine Mess for a reason.
It's chaotic, but the beauty's in the chaos, you know, it makes it fun and I've just really enjoyed the ride a lot.
You have a couple different singles coming out, but one that you're kind of promoting right now is 99 Times.
Can you give us a little background about the song?
99 Times is one of my favorites from the new album because it's just a fun song to get up and sing.
It's driving rock song.
You kind of get to mess up your hair.
But, you know, it's a song about being lied to, about being in a relationship where somebody's unfaithful and you didn't know about it for a while and you feel really stupid.
For 99 times, you looked me in the eye.
You looked me in the eye and swore you will lie.
I was so blind.
I never saw the signs.
I'm getting out tonight.
You're not invited.
The video for 99 Times was so much fun.
I had a bunch of different looks and it was kind of a bunch of different Kates, like, walking around this big ballroom.
We did it at the Park Plaza in LA with a ton of different guys.
Like, you know, figuratively 99 guys and all the guys are supposed to represent guys who lie or guys who cheat.
And at the very end there's one guy in particular who's played by Derek Hough, who's like my boyfriend.
Yeah.
It was cool and then I end up pushing him and he falls and there's a huge domino effect with all of the guys and it was really cool to see.
One Tree Hill.
Now, your character Mia has been on the show for a couple seasons.
How has she evolved?
When I started out on the show playing Mia, Mia was so timid and quiet and she was really in her shell.
And then she meets Chase, who's played by Stephen Colletti, who's a great kid.
And, you know, Mia and Chase have this cute little relationship that starts to form and it really inspires her to write her second record and she's just gotten so much more outgoing and involved in the little Tree Hill community.
If you could explain yourself in one word.
These days, I think it would be honest.
This record is so straightforward and vulnerable and okay with being vulnerable and hopefully that will help people to relate to it is because it's just direct and straightforward.
Hey Young Hollywood, this is Kate Voegele.
Thanks so much for checking me out behind the scenes.
Be sure to look at my new album, A Fine Mess, just came out, so excited for you guys to hear it and hopefully we'll see you out on the road touring.
Thanks guys.
