About this video

Montana Tucker is a modern-day quadruple threat: a singer, an actress, a dancer, and a TikTok queen! Having started her career as a backup dancer for the likes of Ashanti and Remy Ma, she soon graduated to a singer in her own right, opening for Pitbull, Lil Wayne, Ciara, and more. She continues to ride the wave of her blossoming musical career, and Young Hollywood hits her up on Zoom to get the scoop on her latest bop, "Hola"! She explains how plans to film a full-fledged music were interrupted by the coronavirus quarantine, but other stars like Jason Derulo and Lele Pons gave her a boost by filming their own videos for the song! We also learn more about Montana's TikTok habits, like her most memorable collab (hey J.Lo!), her favorite TikTok dance, and how many drafts she currently has, plus she reveals herself to be a dedicated DM-reader and comments-responder!

Young Hollywood

looks so good.

Montana Tucker

Thank you. Look at you your makeup is beautiful.

Young Hollywood

Thanks. I think I think I've turned into a complete makeup guru over quarantine. Not even going to lie. I really do the same makeup every day. It's so terrible. You would think I would learn by now like how to do anything cool, but no. Are you hanging out? Are you quarantine in LA?

Montana Tucker

I am. I wasn't in Florida actually for like two and a half months and then I finally got back here. Yeah, it was unexpected. I thought I was just going because I'm from Florida originally. And so I thought I was just going for a quick little weekend. Yeah. That turned into a quick little two and a half months. So, I was going through that months.

Young Hollywood

I love it. And you like you collab and do a lot of your projects with people in LA so like were you dying when you found out you were stuck there?

Montana Tucker

At first I was like I like freaked out. I was like, oh my god, what am I going to do? I'm so used to like every day literally collabing with like 10 different people. I'm going from here to here to here. So, I made my mom my partner and I made I don't know if you had a chance to see any of the videos I've done with my mom.

Young Hollywood

I have. I've seen like the you who fixed talks.

Montana Tucker

Oh yeah, I made her my partner. So that was that was quite interesting to say the least.

Young Hollywood

Your new single. Yes. Yes. You're loving it. Yeah, I did and I like I watched the lyric video or like the music video on YouTube and I love how it comes up with all the different languages.

Montana Tucker

Yes. First that was like that really inspired me when we were thinking of ways. Um what we wanted to do for the lyric video or even for the cover art. We were just like I really wanted to do that especially because I have a lot of fans and followers from all around the world. So, I wanted to somehow incorporate everyone into you know, this is like my first real big song. So, I wanted everyone to be a part of it.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, you definitely did too and what kind of what were your what were you most looking forward to when the song got released? Like how fans are going to react, how people are going to react?

Montana Tucker

Well, I was actually supposed to release it even earlier and then COVID happened and everything happened and I actually had rehearsals to film the music video and I was like, we had everything ready to go and then like boom everything happened. So, we're holding off on releasing it and kind of deciding like what we wanted to do. And then finally we're like, let's just release it. Like let's put it out. We don't need to wait like even though it's a weird time right now, like let's just put it out. So, I put it out and like my original, you know, plan of like promoting it was to be like collabing with all kinds of people, but I'm so thankful so many of my friends made videos to it on their own. I was like so thankful I couldn't believe they actually did it, you know, you know, like you never really know and I like so many people Jason Derulo made a video to my song and Lele Pons and King Batch and just like all kinds of amazing people created a video to my song and I was just so grateful and thankful and and so it was incredible and now the music video we've been holding off on and now this is kind of like top secret information, but I think we're going to be shooting it in Mexico, which I'm super excited about and like like next month. So, that's going to be the song going to be so epic. I can't think of like a better place to film it. Um so yeah, I'm really excited.

Young Hollywood

Who is one person that you would that maybe already has listened or one person like that you want to like hear from that has listened to your song.

Montana Tucker

I think like this is going to be such an unexpected answer if anyone knows me, but I'm obsessed with JLo. And um I would just I would love for her to hear my music. I've I've met her and I've actually filmed a video with her before and been around her a lot. We have the same vocal coach Stevie Mackey. But I don't think she's ever heard my music. So that would be something that would be just really cool for her to hear. And even do a song with her. I mean that would literally be the ultimate. That would be that's like top, like oh my god. That would be cool. I would like pass out, I think. But um that would be yeah, that would be the ultimate.

Young Hollywood

We're going to play a little game. It's called behind the Tik Tok if you're down.

Montana Tucker

Oh, okay.

Young Hollywood

Basically we're going to learn about like your Tik Tok habits, style and kind of like what goes into creating your content.

Montana Tucker

Okay. Okay. So, how many drafts do you think you have in your Tik Tok right now?

Montana Tucker

Everyone always makes fun of me because I always have so many drafts. I don't know I probably have like at least 100 drafts. Yeah, I love it. I tracked. Yeah, you can track. I'm actually really curious because I know I recently like kind of went through them. So any of these drafts now would be recent. 131. 131. I don't know if you can see it but 131. Yeah, 131. I love it. Oh my god.

Young Hollywood

Okay, how many how do you usually get in touch with people to collab with? Are you like DM on Instagram? DM on Tik Tok?

Montana Tucker

Yeah, I actually I've never even used the DM feature on Tik Tok. Yeah. Ever, but I always I always DM people on Instagram and that's something I always say to people like don't be shy to DM people like if you think they're not going to answer and if they don't answer that's the worst that can happen. I think like I always DM people always always always and I look through my DMs when people DM me to collaborate. Whether you have 10 million followers or 10 followers, you know, I try to read everything and I've collaborated with people who don't have big followings that I just like am passionate about what they do and and love what they they're talented. So, um yeah, I DM people.

Young Hollywood

What is one of your most memorable collabs?

Montana Tucker

I'm sorry to say it again. Obviously. JLo. It was because it was so it was just so crazy. I've been a fan of hers for so long. Yeah. Um we had we always had these like weird coincidences like since I was little I actually was up for this role to play her daughter in a movie that she did with Robert Redford. It went straight to DVD. It was called Unfinished Life. And uh they flew me out to New York like back and forth. I was like, I don't even remember like eight or nine or something. And um yeah, so like since I was younger, we just always had these like weird coincidences. I've always worked with her choreographers and dancers, but it was at the end of her Vegas residency and they wanted like um a creator to to come in and like kind of promote the ending her last few shows her residency and they wanted someone that was like involved with music and dance. So, it was a really cool collab if you haven't seen it. Um, I I was in Vegas and I was like, I snuck into the Planet Hollywood where where her show was and then like basically like the special effect turned me in. I'm wearing like an outfit of hers and I have all her dancers on the stage and then at the end she comes in. So, it's really cool. It's really really cool.

Young Hollywood

How many times does it usually take you to record a Tik Tok that you're going to post?

Montana Tucker

It really depends. So, I just got into Tik Tok like six or seven months seven months ago probably and I was always doing my Instagram videos before that and Instagram videos were very different than Tik Tok videos. Like the ones that I used to do and I still do occasionally but like I made them full on productions. Like I would have two to three hours of rehearsal and two to three hours of filming and then the editing and then we get costumes and like get 10 dancers and it was just like always a full thing. And so it was such an interesting like mentality change going to Tik Tok from um Instagram because everything doesn't have to be perfect.

Young Hollywood

Favorite Tik Tok dance.

Montana Tucker

The Savage dance for sure.

Young Hollywood

How many minutes does it usually take you to learn a dance from scratch?

Montana Tucker

I'm that's one thing like I will meet somebody and forget their name like immediately, but I will remember dances. Like for some reason my brain, I don't know why it's wired like this, but I can remember dances. It's so crazy. So, I I I don't know. I learn something and I can learn it really quickly. Like five minutes.

Young Hollywood

Most embarrassing moment from taking a Tik Tok.

Montana Tucker

Oh, I like fall all the time. I feel like I'm the clumsiest person in the world that I think people might not realize because I'm a dancer. I am like I have scars and scratches and bruise like literally like I I won't even I'll have zero clue how I get them. I'm I'm the clumsiest person.

Young Hollywood

How often do you are you checking your like comments and coming back to people?

Montana Tucker

Oh, I am a big liker and commenter. I am always like that's that's again why I like I'm on my phone way too much because I feel like I'm always like I like literally no one else has even access to my Instagram. Not even like literally no one has access to my Instagram.

Montana Tucker

So, it's only me on there and I try to like every single comment and respond to as many comments as I can and DMs and everything because like I said, I'm I'm so thankful that people even like follow me and comment and like my stuff and I'm so grateful and so I try to as much as I can.

Young Hollywood

What's your favorite Tik Tok filter and Instagram filter?

Montana Tucker

Ooh, I think the G6 Tik Tok filter. That one's pretty good. I like that one. And of course always like the beauty effect. Always necessary.

Young Hollywood

And then what's the one thing that you love most about Tik Tok?

Montana Tucker

I just love that Tik Tok allows everyone to kind of be themselves. I feel like other platforms I feel like are very like professional and very polished and I think on Tik Tok you can kind of just post whatever and I feel like people are way less judgmental. On Tik Tok I'm like posting everything. I'm posting like little tricks. I'm posting little like pranks or little acting videos, dancing videos, singing videos and I'm kind of just like posting whatever I really feel I want to post. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Well, you're killing it.

Montana Tucker

Thank you.
