Young Hollywood

What's up Young Hollywood? Today we're with Kat Von D. Welcome to Young Hollywood. Except we're at your house today.

Kat Von

Oh, I'm very excited to be here.

Young Hollywood

Okay, so we're gonna do a little drawing game. So, basically, I explained to her a little bit before, but what's gonna happen is I'm gonna read off a list of scenarios and you're gonna have to draw them. Okay. So, they are related to your music and everything you've accomplished so far and

Kat Von

And I have a time limit?

Young Hollywood

Yeah, we'll give, we'll give you like solid 45 seconds. But it won't be that strict. I'm probably gonna forget to count. But, you know. And yeah, they're related to music, album, tattoos, everything that you basically killed in life like you're so good at it. Okay. All right, so first one we have the sketch pad. Uh-huh. I have one too, in case maybe I just want to throw down like something.

Kat Von

I love it. We can battle.

Young Hollywood

And then this is our The whole every Cool. Color that you have for an option. Awesome. Okay, so, first we'll start easy. Draw your next tattoo. That you're gonna get.

Kat Von

I might need a Sharpie for this one, okay. This is not gonna be very impressive, by the way.

Young Hollywood

Are you ready? Ready. And we have a very special guest, the cat today.

Kat Von

I love it. It's just so much. All right, this is this is my next tattoo. But I'll explain to why. So, like basically

Young Hollywood

It looks like the cat.

Kat Von

Yeah, so basically, like I, and people this is like, I don't know why people hate my new tattoos so much, but like, I started, I started covering up all my tattoos, like just solid black. And um, you know, I, it's actually today is my sober birthday. So, I'm Yeah, yeah, 14 years sober today. So, um, so you know, I got a bunch of stuff when I was drunk and it was just stupid, you know, I don't wanna stare at this anymore. So, I started blacking it out. So, like, I I can kinda pull up my sleeve so so you can kinda see like I still have like the portrait of my dad and stuff. So, my next tattoo, my next session, I'm gonna continue my arm. So. Gotcha. There you go.

Young Hollywood

Did the filling in the rest black, does that hurt?

Kat Von

Yeah, I mean it's, it it all hurts. But it goes by so much faster because they're using 44 needles at the same time. Right. So, it's like covering more skin faster. But it's it's pretty intense. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

What was your tattoo that hurt the most?

Kat Von

Um, I think like the crease where your leg meets your ass is like the worst. Like everybody thinks, oh, like there's fat on my butt, so it's not gonna hurt. But Right. It's one of the most painful places ever. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

I was literally, I was like, I need to get a tattoo just in honor of. Because I don't have any. Yeah. I was like, I'm gonna like, after this, go get a tattoo.

Kat Von

I love it. That's for you.

Young Hollywood

Okay. What's next one? Draw, okay, so if you were gonna get a tattoo that represented the upcoming album. Okay. What would that tattoo look like? Okay. Oh my gosh. There's two colors. Okay.

Kat Von

Oh my god. I mean, this is like the worst drawings I've done in so long, cuz I'm used to having so much time to like perfect them and Just think about it. So, please don't judge me. Okay, ready? There you go.

Young Hollywood

I love it.

Kat Von

So, you know, I mean basically, I wrote an album of like anthems for the hopeless romantic. So, Right. I think um, anybody who um, who's a hopeless, a fellow hopeless romantic will will enjoy it.

Young Hollywood

Who is one person that you hope listens to the album?

Kat Von

Well, you know, I, I was talking about this to my husband the other day, cuz I was like, you know, I wrote this album 10 years ago when I was like in a pretty depressing state of mind and um, and felt really alone in all of it. And I feel like if if my music makes somebody feel less alone, then that makes me super happy and you know, if it comforts them in that way. So, I guess, you know, um, I don't think it's for everybody, but I think those who can relate to it will love it.

Young Hollywood

And do you think there's ever a point where you were like, wish you had this album?

Kat Von

Yeah, for sure. I mean, all these songs are songs that I wrote about my feelings at the time. So, it's like, you know. But I think we all have our little soundtracks to life and you know, songs that just like remind us of certain times and stuff and But yeah, I I think so. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Okay. Ready for the next one? Yes. Draw, cuz we know your tour got put on hold cuz of, you know, the pandemic. Yeah. Yeah. So, draw the first outfit you're gonna wear when you tour. Oh my gosh. Okay. You're really into fashion.

Kat Von

I am. Um, Okay.

Young Hollywood

First outfit for your dream. Did you have outfits picked out before?

Kat Von

Yeah. We started doing all like the stage design, um, like a year ago or whatever. So, basically, I was gonna do this like, um, kinda like gender bender like nine or 1770s Beethoven look. But like, what a boy would dress like back then, but with a giant cape. So, I was gonna have like latex leggings with like the little shorts that come down on her knees and have like a crazy halo hat. So, yeah.

Young Hollywood

That would be so sick. What would be your opening song?

Kat Von

Um, well, there's this intro, there's a song called Vanish and I, and we wrote this intro to it. And I have a contortionist in my band. And so like she Yeah, she's so crazy. She moves her body in ways I can't even comprehend. So, like the intro would be her dancing while I come out on stage. Yeah. So, and then we you know, we play the song Vanish. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

That'd be very sick. Yeah. And she, what is she in the band?

Kat Von

Well, she's just our fellow contortionist. Yeah, I love that. That's the perfect band member, honestly. You never know. I'm like her body is her instrument.

Young Hollywood

Okay. Let's see. Okay, so your first lyric in your new song, I Am Nothing. Yeah. That says, there's a picture of us that I can't throw away. So, for people that have listened to the song, picked like right what, draw the picture that people would picture or you'd want them to picture. Is there a specific picture when you wrote the lyric that you,

Kat Von

Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh yeah. So, basically this is a Polaroid, a crappy Polaroid. Yeah. But it's it's a a picture of me holding hands with somebody. And technically, the picture is like us staring into the sky together, but I didn't wanna draw a sun. So, Yeah. There you go.

Young Hollywood

Do you have the Polaroid still?

Kat Von

Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

That's awesome. Okay, if your son could draw a tattoo for you. Oh, oh. Besides scribbles. I already I already know what this is gonna be. What do you think your son would draw for you? All right, this is gonna be green. And you said he's really into dinosaurs right now.

Kat Von

Dinosaurs, dragons and uh, robots. That'll be the tattoo. He's obsessed with T-Rex, like. My goal is to literally be able to draw the dinosaur like that. Like, with a lot of time. With with like a hot dog tail. He's a dinosaur. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

I love it. What was his first word?

Kat Von

Um, well, funny enough, his first word was Nietzsche cuz our cat's name is Nietzsche. Not mom, not dad. Yeah, yeah, and it was like it's my one of my favorite philosophers. So, I was like, oh my god, he's so cool. You know, but now he like, he he speaks of a millennium and he's bilingual. So, he we we first only spoke Spanish to him. So, he speaks Spanish first and then now he's like picking up English. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

That's so awesome. Super cool. Yeah. Okay, draw your favorite thing about you. Just really like, literally you. Hmm, what's a really hard one? Um,

Kat Von

It could be like, maybe something that you're really good at or like a body part, like everything that's your favorite thing about you. Um, This is technically not a drawing. It's a drawing of letters. You know. So, I think like for me um, what my willingness to be better, to become better, a better person. Like, I'm I consider myself a seeker and like I always wanna, you know, be a better version of who I am. And so I think that would be my favorite quality. I know it's not that exciting.

Young Hollywood

No, it is exciting because I mean it actually means a lot. Yeah. Cool. Oh my gosh. Okay, and then on top of just basically everything like you've done the whole, you know, tattoo thing, now you're recording artist, you have your successes with makeup. Yeah. So, overall, draw a symbol or maybe not a symbol, like basically like an overall if you think like if you wanted a picture like at the like to hang that like above you that represented you. What do you think you would draw?

Kat Von

Um, all right. Let's see. This is a very complex question. Basically like what like picture your life and then put that in the picture. Yeah. Okay. So this last album was like all like a bunch of sad love songs that I was like pining over this unrequited love. And so this the next album, I wanted to have like a lot more anger. Hope. And then obviously still dive into like the sadness. Cuz I think like melancholy is beautiful. It's like my favorite chord progressions tend to be melancholy. So, yeah. I'm just gonna keep all the drawings.

Young Hollywood

You can keep them.

Kat Von

I'm just gonna keep them all. You can have all of them.

Young Hollywood

Are you sure you don't wanna like get this one framed? Yeah, I think that's the one. I feel like that would literally hang in the house. Like that's so simple, yet so good. Awesome. You're so good at like just drawing pictures randomly. I mean, good thing. Because it's like I know. Yeah. But like literally so good.

Kat Von

Thanks.

Young Hollywood

Cool. And then last one, so for future. So, you have this album coming out. Yeah. And all of your music, like something down the line you wanna write about. So, draw like what you wanna write about. Or like make an album about in the future. Okay. Cuz you plan more like album stuff, right?

Kat Von

Oh, yeah. We're already writing album number two right now. So sick. And when we, when the lockdown first started, I moved my roommates, or my roommates, my band mates into like we have like a two-bedroom bungalow in the back. Yeah. And we basically worked on music every single day. So, um, it was it was actually really good for us. You know, I feel like like we weren't bored, we stayed productive and it's always good for your sanity, you know. Yeah. Yeah. I know a lot of friends that just got really restless, you know. Oh, yeah. I don't blame them. Use their time wisely, which is good. Yeah.
