Young Hollywood

Hello. How are you doing?

Cole Swindell

Good. How are you?

Young Hollywood

Good. You were supposed to play in Syracuse on June 10th and that's where I'm from. And so all of my friends were going to that concert. Really? All of them. Like literally, I'm in like the middle of the country. So, everyone's just like, "Oh my God! You're talking to Cole and like we were supposed to go up to his concert." So, I just wanted to like break the ice with that because you were supposed to be literally up the road from me.

Cole Swindell

Oh. Well, hey. I trust me. That's um every every time I hear, "You should, you should uh be in our city tonight playing." It's it's sucks because I trust me. That's where I want to be is on the road doing doing what I love, but hey, hopefully hopefully, you know, this hanging around's helping and we'll um we'll get back to it soon.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. You'll be back soon. And you got to come out. You got to come to and all your friends that were coming to the show, hello. And y'all better come back. We'll be We'll be right back. We'll be there. And have you been playing a lot of golf while you've been at home? Like over the past few months?

Cole Swindell

Yeah, trying to. That's uh thank God I I love golf like I do. I mean, that and that and writing songs and that, you know, obviously we haven't been able to play shows, but you know, um and I as I'm sure you know, the this whole Zoom thing is saving saving us. I mean, I've I've written some really good stuff I love over over this Zoom app and it's um like I said, we're still at least getting to write songs. We're not playing shows, but right now I'm in the middle of making an album and just put out a song and all that. So, I'm still getting to uh to write and and play golf. That's that's what I love to do anyway. So, it hasn't been uh if I sit in the house too long, you know, I I go stir crazy. But, I got to get out and do something.

Young Hollywood

For sure. And for your songs that you are writing, how are you getting your like inspiration?

Cole Swindell

Uh you know, it just depends. You know, there's been some meaningful songs, I think, that needed to get out just because of the times we're we're living in and then also uh just fun stuff. Like songs that I can't wait to get out and go party again, you know, stuff like that. So, it's just I mean all my songs. I mean, people want to know I mean it's it's a lot of just from living. I mean stuff you've done, stuff you wish you'd done, or whatever, you know, it's just about real life. That's why I love I love all kinds of music, honestly. I just country to me just uh a lot of times, you know, tells some sort of story and I I I dig that. So.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, definitely. And you dropped your latest single, "Single Saturday Night." It's a vibe. It's really good and what was like the inspo behind the song? How long did it take you to write it? And what was it like releasing it like while everybody's home?

Cole Swindell

Yeah. Well, this is one that um I'm glad you said that because I feel like I did. I mean, the first I I unfortunately uh didn't didn't write this one, but first time I heard it my buddies that sent it to me, they knew I was going to flip out over it. And because it sounds like just like something that that I I would have written. So, um, you know, the first time I heard it I I remember sitting there and being like, "I think this is pretty good." I need to hear this again. I listen again. I'm like, "Yes." This is really a I I was like 100% a hit. And I just I bet I listened to it 15 times that night in a row. And I just that's kind of how I judge, you know, what songs I'm going to record whether I write them or not, you know, if I'm just the one that you want to listen to over and over and over the song like when you you get in the car with your buddies, whatever, heading to play golf, which one do you want to turn up? Like that that's the one. And and me being, you know, growing up just a music fan, I am a fan, so I kind of feel like I can relate to everybody I'm singing to just because it's I'm just like them, you know. And and if I I love a song that much, I got to, you know, trust my gut and know that at least maybe somebody feels like I do out there.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. And and one of the lyrics is that you said like you saw a girl with pretty red lips sipping on a White Claw. And what is what do you like White Claws? What's your favorite flavor? You drink them?

Cole Swindell

Um yeah, no, I don't I I don't mind them. I like I said I'm I mean I can, you know, at the bar every now and then. I can I can do a vodka soda or something, which I know this is not that, but it kind of tastes like it. So, hot day, golf course, I I nothing against White Claw. I'll take one, especially now that I have it in the song. So, I I better

Young Hollywood

I know, I was going to say, you need to if you do like a music video for it. Yep. Favorite flavor.

Cole Swindell

I don't I don't know. Whichever one uh whichever one comes out of the the box next.

Young Hollywood

Right. And what are you looking forward to the next Saturday night when life's like normal again?

Cole Swindell

Man, just hopefully uh shaking hands, giving hugs, just being around people, you know, that's uh I mean, even now you you you get to do stuff like this and you go places, but it's almost like the new normal, you I mean, you don't even hardly you just see people and you're just like, "Hey," you know. And it's I hope that doesn't stick around because I I understand. I mean, you got to be safe, but it's just uh man, the whole, you know, connection with people, it's it's a little lost. So, I'm excited to just be around people and like I said, just get back to to living, you know, even, you know, we got to get like I said, but I think what we're doing now is is very important. And I hopefully it's going to get us back to work sooner just because like I said, I'm not the only one out there that's ready to get back to doing what they do and and um hopefully, you know, this quarantine is going to help. But like I said thank thankfully we got Zoom and and ways to keep in touch and and uh yeah.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Have you attended any Zoom parties or anything like that or you just usually FaceTime people?

Cole Swindell

You know, I I haven't yet. I I know some people are doing that. I've uh only Zoom and I've done is writing. But, I've gotten a couple invites on Instagram and stuff like, "Hey, join." I I I should pop in on one, so.

Young Hollywood

You should crash one.

Cole Swindell

The next one, yeah. The next one I get, I'm going to uh I'll probably try to crash it, so.

Young Hollywood

If you're watching, send me an invite. Right. And then we're going to play a little game of reveals if you're down. Okay. Just a couple questions. So, reveal the song of yours that you always play.

Cole Swindell

I got to go, "Single Saturday Night." I mean, I've wore that out the past six months.

Young Hollywood

Do you if you get in the car with someone, do you ever just play it or you kind of wait till it comes up on shuffle or you don't play your own songs if you get in like the car?

Cole Swindell

It kind of I mean, it kind of depends. I'm not just in there with my cell phone on uh repeat or anything. But it it somebody's like, "Hey, you got anything new or or maybe even I'll say, "Hey, you got to check out this new song because that's how I judge too like how what my friends think and and how they their reaction." I mean, they're not going to Everybody I might have a couple that'll be like that sucks or whatever. But, you know, it's you know, you can tell by their reaction whether it's, you know, whether they're just like, "Yeah, that's cool" or "Holy," you know, that that's uh It's kind of you just go by that. So.

Young Hollywood

Single Saturday Night.

Cole Swindell

Single Saturday Night, yeah.

Young Hollywood

What is the reveal the first thing you do when you wake up?

Cole Swindell

Look at my phone and see what time it is.

Young Hollywood

And then you check your email, texts? What do you what do you check first?

Cole Swindell

Probably see if I got a text then maybe roll on over there to Instagram and check it out. Kind of, yeah. Just just see what's going on in the world, you know. Normal things.

Young Hollywood

Okay, reveal what show you're currently watching. Netflix, Hulu, TV.

Cole Swindell

Oh, I'm a little late on it, but I just binged uh um Yellowstone. Yeah. So, I had to

Young Hollywood

Yes. You like this? Good? Glad you binged it?

Cole Swindell

Yeah yeah. I well, yeah. I think a new season's coming out this weekend, so I had to get caught up, which was

Young Hollywood

Oh, you're going to binge this weekend. Now we know what you're doing. Reveal what's your favorite lyric from "Single Saturday Night?"

Cole Swindell

Probably the last chorus when it said, "Look at us uh picking out a church now." I think that was a cool little twist up. The the whole song talking about um, you know, walking out of church holding hands and then the last one it's like, "Look at us, we're picking out a church." Get it? They're getting married. So, that's uh yeah, that's my favorite line of that one.

Young Hollywood

I like it. I like it. Well, congrats on the new single. Thank you so much. And thank you so much for talking to us today too.

Cole Swindell

Hey. Well, thank you for uh for talking to me. And I always welcome y'all. Y'all come out and see us whenever we're around the area.
