Welcome to Young Hollywood. What's up, guys? Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood. We are at Jim Henson Studios with the man behind Lady Gaga, Red One. What's up, guys? Leslie Robbins here. Young Hollywood is hanging out with mega music producer, basically the man who put Lady Gaga on the map. Okay, Red One. Last time we saw you, you were in our studio at Young Hollywood and you had just won the BMI songwriter of the year. What has happened since?

Red One

For Lady Gaga's song. How does she say it at the beginning of her song? Oh, Red One. And you know, that's what she's talking about. There's a lot of things that happened since then. I had many, many hits, you know. I got my own label. Life is good, you know. I'm making history, being part of history, which is a blessing.

Young Hollywood

So let's talk about Lady Gaga. Obviously, one of the biggest pop stars ever right now.

Red One

Yeah, throughout history, yeah.

Young Hollywood

I hear you actually weren't very excited to meet her at first.

Red One

No, I got my first hit in America, you know, with Kat DeLuna. I told my manager, okay, now that I have a hit, please get me a signed artist. The next thing you know, he called me and he told me, hey, I want you to meet this girl. And I said, okay, the first question was, is she signed? So like, no, she just got dropped. I was like, oh my God, I told you that this is my chance, you know. But then he said, you know what? Just meet her. 5 minutes into 5 hours, you know. So, uh, I loved her. I saw something that was more than just the, you know, the usual.

Young Hollywood

Let's talk about the other artists you have. Enrique, J. Lo, New Kids, Backstreet Boys, Michael Jackson. You got, yeah. You've won Grammys. Yes. When you were a young boy growing up in Morocco, in Morocco, could you ever have imagined you'd be on top of the world with the biggest names in music?

Red One

You know, the funny thing is like, I always, always dreamed big, you know. All these big stars are just human. They're like you. They just worked hard and believed in their dreams.

Young Hollywood

So I just went to Morocco in December and I went to Rabat. And I heard that you actually gave your Grammy to the king, but I didn't see it.

Red One

Yeah, well, I gave my first Grammy, which is "Poker Face," you know, uh, to, to the King of Morocco. It's just, uh, the King of Morocco is, is the whole nation. He, he represents the vision of, of the new generation and he's an incredible king.

Young Hollywood

We were talking about your own record label. Yes. So, 2101 it's called. Where'd you come up with that name?

Red One

The name has a, a deep meaning to it for me. 2101 is the apartment where me and my wife were struggling, you know. We had nothing. We were back two months on rent. In that apartment, my life changed from the really nothing to a big global success. It means like the struggle to the success, you know, and all in between.

Young Hollywood

Absolutely. Tell me about the artist that you have.

Red One

To mention just a few. Mohombi had many number ones all over the world. Sweden, Holland, France, Spain. But at one point, I felt that I felt that I needed to take my music to the next level, take it globally because, um, my songs are global. So watch out for Mohombi. Mohombi is going to be your love, you know, he's going to be your love too. And then I have Porcelain Black, who is a very special artist, character, singer with the most special voice. When I played, I played her for Bono. Uh, he loved her so much. Oh, I played for Bono. Honestly, I don't sign any artist that I don't see the big vision, you know. They have to have their own world, big world. They write, they're involved in everything, you know, they're very creative. They're not created, they created.

Young Hollywood

Cher and Lady Gaga. Yes. How did that happen? It sounds big.

Red One

How it happened is just the song me and Gaga wrote it, you know, we were talking, me, my management and her management to try to get us together, me and Cher. And I played her this song. She just fell in love. She was like, this song is my song. I'm very excited. There's a lot of good songs coming out, you know, and, uh, and good artists and, you know, it couldn't be better, you know, it's just It's happening.
