Sick Puppies

Welcome to Young Hollywood. I'd like to introduce you to a band that is not only tearing up the airwaves, but is taking YouTube by storm with over 10 million hits. Sick Puppies is about to release their debut album next month and already has a hit video for their song All The Same. We had the opportunity to talk to the band and the man that gave Sick Puppies the idea for their Free Hugs video. It's not just about age, it's about attitude. Young Hollywood is here. I'm sitting here with Juan Mann. Now, some are calling you the uh Free Hugs Guy. Let's talk a little bit about that.

Yeah, well I am the Free Hugs Guy. I walk around with a giant cardboard sign giving away Free Hugs to people.

How did this- how did all this start?

A little bit too much spare time, probably a good way of putting it. Um, loneliness, boredom. Kind of try and do something nice for other people so that I could see them smile at me and it worked.

And then one day you're approached by someone named Shim.

Yeah, well, Shim and I both worked I guess in the same mall. Um, he held up a Free Shoe Sales sign and I held up a Free Hugs sign and he came to me one day and said, hey, I've borrowed my dad's video camera, can we, do you wanna shoot something? Well, my grandmother had passed away so Shim put together this video as a gift for me, to kind of, a get well card and I loved it, the band loved it, so we kind of all decided putting it on YouTube would be a great idea to share with everyone else, because everyone we showed it to wanted a copy of it.

And then one day uh, Juan called me up, who was um, a very good friend of mine from back in Sydney, who was giving out free hugs back in Sydney, called me up and his um, his grandmother had passed away and he was just really down and really messed up and he but I'm being, me being on the other side of the world, couldn't do anything for him. So I made this video for him out of um, home video footage that I'd shot of him when he was giving out free hugs about a year and a half ago. And made it and sent it off to him as a get well card and that was it. And we just, I just put one of our songs underneath it because it was the right sort of song for the emotion. And then here I am in in L. A. , I've been on Oprah, I've done CNN, so many different news networks and people wanting to take it on board. Free Hugs campaigns have started in 60 different countries around the planet. It's crossing language barriers, international borders, genders, ages, it's fantastic. I don't mind where you come from. As long as you come to me. But I don't like illusions. I can't see them clearly. I don't care. No, I wouldn't dare to fix the twist in you. You've shown me eventually what you'll do. I don't mind. I don't care. As long as you're here. Go ahead tell me you'll leave again. You'll just come back running. Holding your scarred heart in hand. It's all the same. And I'll take you for who you are. If you take me for everything. Do it all over again. It's all the same. Hours, nights and days go by till you decide to come.
